How can I suppress paragraph markers?

Recommended Posts

I can't seem to find this anywhere in the help materials. I do not want to display the paragraph markers (= pilcrows) when I have the text displayed as verses. (I realize that I can suppress the pilcrows when I choose to display paragraphs.) The main instance is when I run a search and want to copy verses, but I don't want paragraphs or pilcrows.

Thanks!

What text are you in that has paragraph markers?

Sorry. I didn't read that closely enough. I don't see a way to do this. It would make a good on/off option in text settings, though. If someone else knows a way, perhaps they will chime in.

Copying as citation will remove both paragraph markers and superscripts, but it also removes verse numbers, which you may or may not want to do. And it adds a citation at the end of the verse.

If you simple set it to view by paragraph  they are all gone.

You can also customize copy as citation to not strip verse numbers, append (or not) the citation differently, or many other settings.

How do I make verses to hyperlink in the paper feature? I don't want to copy all the verse just the citation. Also is it possible just to copy and paste a word document/outline into the paper feature and have everything hyperlink automatically?

One more thing how do I insert images into the outline of the paper feature? It seems like there are no specific tutorials to use this feature.

Ok, this is a start on the right track... (Cf. below.)

Yes, I noted that for viewing, but that is not what I want when copying / pasting and want separate verse references.

Yes... I started playing with the Citation settings in the Preferences.

  • The default is to add quotation marks around the text and reference which is odd and not helpful, but, under Content, it is a simple matter of deleting the quote marks (which seems to be the default.) Also under Content, I set it to show as Paragraphs. (And here it does deliver what I want.)
  • Under Content References, I confirm that there are no markers, and I choose to have the book chapter:verse before the verse. (I also choose to abbreviate the book name and to ignore the reference style)
  • Under Citation Reference, I choose No Reference. (But here is where you can choose to add the hyperlink by checking "include accord:// location URL")

When I set things this way, I do get the text cited as I want. It looks like this, and there are no paragraph markers.

(If I did not choose to ignore the reference style, the book chapter:verse would be in bold)

I just need to remember to use CTRL-ALT C (instead of CTRL-C)

Thanks for the help!

Diatheke:

You can copy just the verse numbers by doing Edit -> Copy as -> References, or Command-Option-R (Control+Alt+R on Windows).  Verses in the Paper will automatically hyperlink, just paste or type them in.  The problem is, when exporting to MS Word, what are you hyperlinking to?  Hyperlinks in a Word document aren't smart, like Accordance's automatic Paper links, as Word doesn't have a context for bible references.

Right now, the easiest way to add pictures is to copy one, select your paper item, then paste it onto the item.

Hmmm... I've used both BibleWorks and Logos. BW allows for a variety of hyperlinking, but the links only works within BW's internal editor (even though they are simple RTF files). The links do not work in MS Word. This seems to be the same way things work in Accordance.

I don't know enough how they exactly do it, but Logos does have a way of creating hyperlinks when copying something to MS Word. The code looks like this:

https://ref.ly/logosres/nrsv?ref=BibleNRSV.Mar1.1

I.e., it runs the text through a browser. The first time you use it, it wants to know if you want to use Logos to open logosref links from now on. It would be nice to have this hyperlinking available through Accordance, since I'm trying to make Accordance my primary tool, and I have much more powerful editing tools in MS Word. Thanks.

External links are supported in Accordance via the accord:// URL, and I believe they can work in MS Word, though I'm not sure.  I know they generally work other places that support generic weblinks.

You can see them documented in the Accordance Help:

They don't seem to work initially in Word just by pasting them onto a page, but there is a way to make them work. If you were writing something and you wanted to hyperlink to the Accordance URL, type whatever it is that you wanted to link--maybe a verse reference like Genesis 1:1 or just the Accordance location URL itself if you want it to display. Then select that text. Right-click on the selected text to pull up the contextual menu. Choose Hyperlink... . Then paste the location URL in the address. Hit Ok and that will link the text to the content in Accordance!

Thank you for the response.

Here's my thing.  I'm writing the outline in Spanish, but the verses are not being hyperlinked when I type the reference in Spanish in the "Paper" feature.  Is there a way to change the setting of the language on the interface.  I even tried setting my Spanish Bible as my "preferred" Bible, but even then, when I type Hechos 22:16 (Acts 2:16) it won't hyperlink.  When I set the preferred Bible to Spanish, and I click on a reference in English, it still gives me the ESV with strongs numbers.  So I don't know how to go about it.

Thanks for any help you can offer!

This is actually working just fine for me. I went to a Paper, set one of my Alternate texts to Nueva Versión Internacional, and when I typed in Hechos 22:16, it linked just fine.  If you are having trouble with this, could you perhaps post a screenshot of your Paper settings (where you set the Spanish Bible as your preferred text), and where you typed the reference into your Paper?

I finally got the Spanish verses to hyperlink. For some reason the first paper that I created have the ESV as a preferred text and when I tried switching Bibles it wouldn't work. So I deleted that sample paper and created a new one with the Spanish Bible as a preferred Bible - which is kind of odd because it should be able to switch back and forth every time I change the settings of my preferred Bible, Regardless of what Bible are used when I created the paper - does that make sense? Anyway, for now it's working. Thank you!
