Hi,

I was wondering whether Accordance is interested in adding more theological and philosophical texts.

Please, please, please work diligently on getting Karl Barth's works—especially Church Dogmatics. I know this is between Accordance and the Copyright holders/publishers, but we have been waiting soooo long for this! Pretty please?

We’d love to have Barth and other titles from T&T Clark. So far, it’s an unrequited love. But to quote a certain movie line, I keep thinking, “So you’re saying there’s a chance!”

I hear that. I'm really actually not unhappy with Accordance—their software is great, and they have given me excellent service over the years. My frustration is actually with T&T Clark (which is part of Bloomsbury). Not only do they not seem to be willing to spread the Barth love to companies other than Logos (no blame to them as far as I know) they also have made it difficult (in my experience) to communicate with them. I have, as a customer, asked for them to work with Accordance on this and have never heard anything back from them, not even a "Thanks for your email."

Additionally, I'm frustrated with them for not making these texts readily available, as a set as regular ePub or PDF—you can easily buy individual volumes (In watermarked pdf), but as far as I can see you can't buy them as a whole set in pdf (or any other digital format). Even with Amazon, you can buy the hardcovers, but the "Kindle Edition" that is linked is actually only selections, and not the whole deal. Very frustrating, but I don't blame Accordance. Just wish it was different.

PDFs can be edited to remove copy protection and watermarks, if you know how and have the right tools. Publishers and other copyright holders should be aware that if they do not release their products for legitimate sale and use, someone may very well decide to bypass the DRM and other limitations and share the products for free. Unfortunately then no-one benefits.

That's true. On the other hand one would think/hope that the majority of people who were interested in such resources would also be willing to pay a reasonable price for them. I don't think, for example, that there would be a great market for illegal torrents of Karl Barth books (otherwise they would already be out there). If you look at the example of what Apple Music and Spotify have managed to do for the music industry, you'll know that people don't "pirate" music nearly as much as they used to, primarily because they can access it legitimately and at a reasonable price other ways. Most people, I believe, are willing to pay for these things, and wouldn't abuse the situation.

That being said, it is always a possibility that there might be a market for pirated Karl Barth and that the T&T/Bloomsbury people would go out of business by being too loosey-goosey with their security.
