Favorite Commentaries

The current system of having some commentary volumes lumped into single modules and others loose on their own or in addendum module is clunky. At the same time to have every individual commentary listed separately in my library would be unwieldy. I wonder if there could be a way do some type of hybrid labelling where sets exist in the library grouped by default when you purchase a set but with a drop down that allows you to bring up a single volume, essentially treating each volume separately.

This would make it much easier to find page reference in a particular volume. Right now I can search a page number and then move through the hits until I reach the volume I'm actually trying to search in.

It would also allow us to create a favourite commentaries parallel panel where we could create a combined text with a favourite commentary for each biblical book.

Jeremy, you can create folders in your Library where you can group commentaries by series or type, or whatever category you like. That's what I do.

Rick, I think he is asking to be able to select one book at a time from a collection.  Tyndale Commentaries, for example, show as one indivisible unit in the library.  It might be nice to separate out one book's commentary so that they could be grouped by book.

If I wanted to get to page 42 in the Romans volume of NICNT, the most reliable way would probably include the use of two search fields:

In the Reference field: Romans

In the Page Numbers field: 42

*edit: use the + sign to the right of the search bar to add a secondary search field

Ideally you could use one search in the Page Numbers field. Something like: Rom * p * 42. However, page numbers are displayed in a variety of ways depending on the module Some modules use volume numbers, like WBC. So the previous search would not always work. Instead, you would have to search: 38A * p * 42. (The star takes care of

things like commas and periods; or you could use the WITHIN command: 38A <WITHIN 8 Words> 42.

In terms of organizing your library, you can use the magnifying glass to the left of the library search bar and set it to Books:Tools. Then a search for Romans would find every commentary (or Tool) that contains Romans. If you clicked on NICNT, it would open to Romans. That seems to do what you are asking for, but I don't think it would be faster. You still have to get to page 42 either by scrolling or searching.

It's not so much that I can't get to page 42 but that it's strange and cumbersome... as illustrated by your suggestion ;)

Also, Info Pane is great and lets you easily jump to a commentary on a specific book. But what I was asking for was a way to treat individual commentary volumes as individual books so that I could create a combined text of my favourite volumes on each book.

ie.
Genesis: Brueggeman Interpretors
Exodus: Enns NIVAC

Leviticus: Sarna JPS

etc
