Capitalization in NA27

Good day!

I realize this is a relatively minor issue, but I've noticed a number of places where my Accordance copy of the Greek New Testament (GNT-T [NA27 version 5.0]) differs in capitalization from the printed NA27. For example, I have initial capitals in 1 Corinthians 11:3, 7, and 13. None of these are capitalized in the print copy. The capital in v. 16 is in the print copy. I'm attaching a screen shot of the passage in question.

Again, I know it's minor, but it just makes me wonder if there's a rationale for this, or if it's simply a typo.

Thanks,

There are a few issues like this regarding capitalization and indentation for both the NA27 and NA28 texts that I've noticed over time. I hope eventually the parity between the digital and the printed text will grow closer. One feature of the NA text is that no typographical feature is accidental. Seeing the text as the editors intended and understanding the features is important for making maximum use of the text.

The indentation that you pointed out a while back in NA28-T will be corrected in the next update for SBL.

This capitalization issue is new to me, and will look into it. Can you confirm that it affects NA28 as well?

Thanks for the feedback.

Sorry, I cannot confirm whether or not this affects the NA28, as I haven't upgraded.

1Cor 11.3, 7, 13 all begin with a capital letter in my print copies of NA27 and NA28.

I don't have an NA28 at hand, but I do have an NA26 and NA27. The caps (or lack of them) in both match what I see in Accordance in NA28 GNT and NA27 GNT.

I don’t see an issue here either.

Ok. Just ran across something this morning. Jn 11.6 the initial ως is not capitalized in my print NA27 nor in the NA27 module but is in both NA28 modules (gnt28 and na28 sigla. I don’t have a print NA28 but it’s my understanding that only the text of the catholic epistles as changed with NA28 so I imagine ως should not be capitalized.

Also, re the OP, the reason those vv begin with capitals is because they initiate subsections and correspond to the ‘tabbed’ or extra long spacing in the print edition. This is not the case at Jn 11.6. While the spacing looks a bit long in the print edition, that is a function of the justification, not a subsection notation. The key to discerning the difference is the capitalization. So, for example, Mt 10.9 is a subsection while 25.13 is not (referring to the print edition in both cases).

Jn 11.6 is capitalized in NA28. The indentation is not in our module, but that's what we're correcting for the next update (couple weeks).

That's interesting. I've never actually used the NA28 print vol. I'll have to look into this as it challenges my understanding of this versions' updates. Thanks for the insight!

Rick, I didn't want to start a new thread for this, but I've noticed that the quotations of NA text are not set off as they should be. The first line of the quotation (for example, Matthew 15.8) should begin a new line. In the module, it does not. Thought I'd bring this to your attention if you hadn't caught it while you're preparing an update.

Thanks for pointing this out. I found the issue and will correct for another update.
