Formatting

Not really sure where to post this. I am actually using the latest beta but I believe this problem existed before the beta. I have some user notes (Book Notes and Chapter Notes) that I like to insert outlines from Wilmington's Outline Bible. They are handy for Bible teaching, however when I copy the outline from this resource (owned in another program) upon pasting the outline is NOT preserved intact. While all the outline numbers and letters are there they are all left oriented! I tried to send a screenshot but accomplishing that on my pc got to be more than I could figure out at this point.

Bob, its hard for us to anticipate formatting from other programs.  Currently the notes don't support a list style, so unless the outline is done with tabs, it simply won't be supported.

Not necessarily good news nut it is what it is. I have no idea how these outlines were formatted. If I stay within the other program formatting is retained but I use Accordance as my "go to" program so I was hoping there was a way around this formatting issue. Thanks Joel for the feedback.

I wonder - if you paste the contents into something like MS Word, is the formatting maintained?

I don't have ms office but maybe it will work in Google Docs?

I'm just curious how well the pasting works in other apps vs Accordance.

Joel, I copy and pasted the very same content and it pastes normally (with formatting) in Google Docs.

OK, thanks for the info.  I'm still not sure what the formatting you have looks like, or how it copies, so I'm not sure if Accordance will be able to support it without more information.

The outline comes from another platform in a resource I own called "Wilmington's Outline Bible". I am including a very small segment of this resource. Not sure if any of this is helpful.

  I.      PAUL’S SUPPLICATION FOR THE PHILIPPIAN BELIEVERS (1:1–11)
    A.      For whom he prays (1:1–2): Pastors, deacons, and all Christians in Philippi.
    B.      When he prays (1:3): “Every time I think of you.”
    C.      How he prays (1:4): He prays with his heart filled with joy.
    D.      Why he prays (1:5, 7–8): The Philippian believers have rendered great assistance to Paul, both in prison and out of prison.
    E.      What he prays (1:6, 9–11)
      1.      That God’s Word be carried to its completion in every believer until the return of Christ (1:6)
      2.      That they might be filled with love (1:9)
      3.      That they might have the spirit of discernment (1:10)
      4.      That they be filled with the fruits of righteousness (or of salvation) (1:11)

II.      PAUL’S EXPLANATION TO THE PHILIPPIAN BELIEVERS (1:12–30)
    A.      The report (1:12–13): Paul’s imprisonment has served to advance the gospel, starting with the palace guard and spreading from there.
    B.      The reaction (1:14–17)
      1.      Concerning his friends (1:14, 16): Paul’s chains encourage them to increase their efforts in proclaiming the gospel.
      2.      Concerning his foes (1:15, 17): They, too, are spreading the gospel, hoping to make the apostle jealous.
    C.      The rejoicing (1:18): Whatever the motive, Paul rejoices that the gospel is being preached.
    D.      The resolve (1:19–26)
      1.      Paul’s dilemma (1:19–23)
         a.      To remain in this life would result in additional fruit (1:19–21a, 22).
         b.      To depart this life would mean being with Christ (1:21b, 23).
      2.      Paul’s decision (1:24–26): He will remain.
    E.      The request (1:27–28): Whatever happens to him, the Philippians are to continue conducting themselves in a manner worthy of the gospel.
    F.      The reminder (1:29–30): They have been granted two wonderful privileges.
      1.      To trust in Christ (1:29a)
      2.      To suffer for Christ (1:29b–30)

The content you pasted here uses spaces for the lists, and if I copy and paste this into Accordance, the spaces, and thus formatting are preserved.

When I paste this same content into a user note everything is moved to the left. It does not look like an outline at all.

Bob

I tried "paste and match style" from the "edit" menu and that did not work either. I would paste a screen shot but I am having difficulty doing that for some reason.

Bob, I understand what you are saying - but the content you pasted here, when re-copied and pasted into a note retains its format.  So whatever your source is seems to be a bit different from how it ended up in this forums example.

Aha! OK, what I did was to copy and paste into Google Docs and then copy the same info from Google Docs into a user note and the formatting is preserved! Thanks Joel! Saves a lot of work.
