Basics of Biblical Hebrew Grammar Workbook, and Key to Exercises

Hi,

I know others have asked for the Workbook. But I think it should be paired with the Answer Key.

You can't please everyone, and I don't agree with everything in the grammar. But overall, I think it is the best grammar for self-study, with its use of color and sound. And of course, some use it in class. The immediate feedback provided by hyperlinked exercises and answers would especially be beneficial for students, particularly for review of previous exercises.

Accordance already has the Grammar. So, it would be natural to provide the Exercises and Answer Key, all hyperlinked.

Regards,

Michel

As someone who studies these languages alone, the exercises AND answer keys are vitally important. I still do my exercises with paper and pencil but I don't mind what form the answer keys are in so long as they are accurate with as few errors as humanly possible. I can't recall is the PvP workbook has the answers at the back or not as I'm working through FHP currently (which does).

Thx

D

. . . overall, I think it is the best grammar for self-study

To elaborate . . .

First, color and sound help the student who is by him/herself.

Second, it has an answer key to the extensive exercises.

Third, there are many additional resources available at https://billmounce.com/hebrew .

Fourth, it is available in Acc (and L).

Fifth, it is well suited for those who will encounter the traditional and some more modern grammatical, etc. terms in their reading of scholarly commentaries, etc.

Sixth, in my experience, if words are distinguished consistently by sound and sight, students learn them more easily. Without getting into details, the Sephardic pronunciation introduces many homophones, and forces students to identify many words graphically.  So I prefer the more ancient pronunciation used in BBH to the Sephardic one used in other beginning grammars. Of course, someone could easily use the Sephardic pronunciation with the BBH if they chose.

It's not a list of a perfect number of seven things, but overall, it's a great choice for self-study or classroom work, as an elementary grammar. I just want to encourage Acc to add the exercises and answer key, with hyperlinks. I think there are many who would buy it.

Regards,

Michel

Something of an aside, 6 is mathematically a perfect number IIRC. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perfect_number

I have also already found the coloring of pointing helpful in the PvP and hope to get to going through it more fully in some months time.

Thx

The Answer Key is downloadable.  I have it and use it.  I think I got it here.  I had to create an account last year, but most of the links on the site seem to be broken at present, so I was unable to sign in to see if I could still download the answer key.  The URL for TextbookPlus is actually in the front of the printed book.  The link for the workbook answer key that was previously downloadable at billmounce.com no longer goes anywhere.

Hi Julia,

The Answer key came with the CD included with the print edition, but it is getting harder to find online. I knew the link didn't work on the Resource page, and I didn't see it on your page. It is still available online, e.g., at http://www.ntslibrar...ical Hebrew.pdf. But if Acc pursued it, I assume they will get the latest and greatest copy of the Workbook from Zondervan, and the Answer key from them, or from the authors.

How much better it would be if we had it all hyperlinked in Accordance!

Regards,

Michel

Boy ! My mind is going - must be all the dead languages :) I downloaded the answer key PDF earlier this year !

Actually my hard copy of the workbook says the CD is in the back which it isn't.

Thx

Michel – I think those are the charts, not the answer key.  The first page of it looks like this.

The whole thing is 115 pages in the thumbnails, 113 numbered pages (first two are Table of Contents).

Hi Julia,

You are correct! And I can't find it online with a quick search. Now I'll have to dig out my CD. It is for someone who has purchased BBH and can't get the Key on the Resource page.

Thanks.

Michel

One thing that has worked for another publication of Zondervan's has been to send them an email, explaining that you are a self-study student and you would like a copy of whichever answer key it is that you need. I have not done this for BBH but have for another work they publish. The only stipulation was that I agree not to distribute it because of its use in colleges all over the place.

Thx

Can we get the workbook for Basics of Biblical Hebrew Grammar? And are we in the process of updating the grammar to the latest edition like Mounce's Greek grammar?

I know others have asked for the Workbook. But I think it should be paired with the Answer Key.

I second this notion with regards to any grammar.  Surely I'm missing something.  Maybe teachers have students perform the exercises in the grammar, and the teacher check the work in class.  But for those who aren't in a classroom setting (something I'm guessing at anyway), what then is the purpose of providing an exercise / workbook if you don't provide the answers to check one's work?

So far, (and I haven't looked thoroughly), the Hebrew grammars I've browsed through don't provide answers to any of the exercises.

Sorry for my ignorance, but how do you get the most benefit out of the Accordance version of the Workbook? Do you simply read the questions and write out your answers on paper?   Or do you print each lesson's worksheets?
