12.1.3: Next/Previous Hit Keyboard Shortucts Malfunctions

When I click the next hit button on the navigation bar, the text jumps to the next highlighted hit. When I press the next hit keyboard shortcut (command + down arrow), the text jumps to the next paragraph. The same thing occurs with the previous hit navigation bar button and keyboard shortcut.

For example, in the image below, two highlighted hits are visible. The first one is 2:13–17 and the second one is 2:14–15. If I click the next hit button on the navigation bar, the text jumps to the next highlighted it—in this case 2:14-15. However, if I press the next hit keyboard shortcut (command + down arrow), the text simply moves to the next paragraph "Overview: Paul here describes…". If I press it again, it jumps to the next paragraph "2:13 Sanctification by the Spirit…".

The same things happens if I press the previous hit keyboard shortcut. But, if I click the previous or next hit button on the navigation bar, it properly jumps back and forth between the highlighted hits.

Any ideas? Can anyone confirm?

Thank you

Well, I've determined what's going on. I was going by this page in the help file which says to use command + down arrow.

Apparently, that is only for text windows.

I searched some more and found this page.

It says command + control + down arrow goes to the next hit. And that worked. However, command + option + down arrow also worked even though it's supposed to go to the next chapter rather than the next hit.

So I have few questions:

1. Are there different navigation keyboard shortcuts for different window types even though the function is the same? The keyboard shortcut for next hit is not the same for texts and tools?

2. Are the command + option + down arrow and commond + control + down arrow supposed to have different functionality in a tool window?

3. Is there a page in the help files that shows all of the navigation keyboard shortcuts for any window type?

Thanks you

Hey Brett, I think you are mainly dealing with some errors in the help. Let me answer your questions:

1. I believe we generally try to keep the keyboard shortcuts as similar as possible.  A Text tab should have the same keyboard commands as a Search tab.

2. No, I believe they function exactly the same in a tool window.

3. I believe the Keyboard Shortcuts area in the help is the most comprehensive location:

You are here: Comprehensive Reference > Keyboards and Keyboard Shortcuts > Keyboard and Keyboard Shortcuts

The first table you found seems to be in error, and we'll get it fixed, thanks!
