Just when I thought my good fortune on special prices for resources of personal interest would run out, another Tuesday rolls around and Carta products are featured. The staff at OakTree must have me in a mind meld. I think at least The Sacred Bridge will soon be added to my library. Easy Breezy indeed!  So, many choices—so many decisions. ;-)

Fraser, I have seen the email and blog. So many choices and such a fixed amount to spent—hence the quandary caused by so many choices! This week offers bunches o' stuff to ponder purchasing.

Question, since Sacred Bridge is the Gold Standard Bible Atlas, is that the only Carta Atlas I need? Also, does the SB overlap with the information other Carta Atlases have? I'm trying to decide how to spend my money wisely.

Sacred bridge to me is an encyclopedia. Lots and lots and lots of useful well researched background information but as an atlas, not always easy to find the map you are looking for as there is no index of maps so you are reliant on searches. In my case you have to be lucky you guess a word that is in the caption and it usually takes me 2 or 3 goes to find what i am looking for. But what you get is brilliant and this is a truely excellent product at a great price. It really depends what you are after from an 'atlas' but this is money well spent for something which will give you more background information on a particular time period. Each chapter covers approximately 100 years.

 

There is a cut down version, havent seen it but why get a cut down version when you can get the full version for a few dollars more?

The bible atlas is brilliant as an atlas with about twice the number of maps that sacred bridge has, but the maps are in monochrome and in a modern data projection and visual savy content age, i dont see the point but i would say this is something else worth considering from Carta ( you can see all the coffee shops david stopped at as he escaped saul).

Ive not seen the bible atlas but have downloaded the index and sample pages from the carta web site and it seems like a more useful atlas if your primary aim is maps set out in an easy to find way.

For a lot of us its about spending our limited resources wisely and i think sacred bridge is a wise investment.

 

I dont have any other carta volumes but the others seem more specialised.

 

However, i still think the esv study bible takes a lot of beating as an atlas and for a wise investment as its about 170 colour maps which are easy to find and it's good value.

I still go to my hard copy of the holman bible atlas by briscoe which ive had pre accordance and still not found anything better for maps in an actual atlas but i tend to go to esv first as its electronic and where i am working at the time which means i dont have to get up.

Thanks ukfraser! I'll probably go for it and add the graphics discoverer. Then I'll purchase other individual Carta resources as I see fit. I already have the introductory series and it's a great collection.

Here is a couple of screen shots from sacred bridge and you can see if any of this info is in the introductory series which will give an indication of overlap. I include this particular page because it gives a flavour of what was happening in 796 bce, part of which is not likely to be covered by any biblical based resources and i think nicely shows the extent of the research of the articles.
