LetterJeremia and Baruch 6 in Parallel

Fabian

Recommended Posts

Hello

The Letter of Jeremia from the NRSV and the Baruch chapter 6 from the Douay-Rheims are the same, but because they are in different books Accordance is not able to show it in parallel.

Please let's make this possible.

The only reason why you see here the two in parallel for one verse is only because there is a bug in the NRSV or Douay-Rheims. So the verses 9 are not in parallel too.

A temporary fix for your own use could be to export the text of Baruch 6, change the versification to match the Letter, and reimport it as a User Bible.

Thanks, I have found the 2 bugs because I have created an Imported Bible with Baruch 6. So I had to change the Bar 6 to LetJer for the NRSV verse mapping. So this forum entry about the two issues is more that the staff knows.

Thanks for the fix.

O.K the fix is only done in the Douay-Rheims Bible.

But the Topic of the Tread isn't solved.

it is still not possible to use LetJer and Baruch 6 in parallel. Accordance should recognize if I'm in Baruch 6 that the Bible in parallel which has LetJer instead of Baruch 6 nevertheless bring both in parallel. Also the other way.

Fabian.

For example it is possible to use http://accordancefiles2.com/helpfiles/OSX12/Skins/Default/Stylesheets/Images/transparent.gifAlternative Book Names

The following alternative names can be used, as follows:

  • Canticles for Song of Solomon
  • Apocalypse for Revelation
  • Ecclesiasticus for Sirach (in the Apocrypha)

 from http://accordancefiles2.com/helpfiles/OSX12/Default.htm#topics/04_gswa/verse_searches.htm#text_abbreviations

so it should also work with Baruch 6 and LetJer.

Thanks

NRSV with Douay-Rheims works now, since both are Letter Jeremiah.

But If I use another Bible like the Einheitsübersetzung then the problem persists.

Hello dev team

please solve this issue.

I also want to import the Bibles with Baruch 6 or LetterJeremiah and it should work both.

How the times goes by. I never thought this request is nearly two years old.

It would be cool if this is possible before XIII is out.

I can't speak to resolving the issue mentioned above, but I did run into something tangentially related yesterday.

In referring to the only place in the Bible where cats are mentioned, I used Copy as Citation to copy and paste this:

“Bats, swallows, and birds alight on their bodies and heads; and so do cats.” (Letterjeremiah 1:22 New Revised Standard Version of the Bible) https://accordance.bible/link/read/NRSVS#LetJer_22 (emphasis added)

Note that the abbreviation "Letterjeremiah" is not correct at all. According to the SBL Handbook of Style, it should be abbreviated as "Ep Jer." Since the NRSV refers to the work as "The Letter of Jeremiah," perhaps "LetterJ," which is what is used in the NRSV translator notes, would be appropriate.

Normally, I don't like to mix two issues together in a forum thread, but perhaps if someone goes into correct the parallel issue originally reported by Fabian, they could correct the abbreviation of the Letter of Jeremiah in the NRSV, at the same time.

1) I'm fixing the Douay versification issue now.

2) To Rick's point about citing from the Letter of Jeremiah: if you select "Abbreviate Book Name" in the Text Display Preferences, the citation will read "LetterJ".

I suppose I should have known that 😕

Follow up: I did have the box checked to abbreviate the book name, but even trying again right now, it gives the wrong result when pasting a verse from the Letter of Jeremiah.

My bad. You actually need to have "Abbreviate Book Name" selected in your Citation preferences.

Huh. Why would I not have that checked?

If you run accord://research/[Alle_Texte];Verse?baruch_6 and accord://research/[Alle_Texte];Verse?let You'll see ca. 50% is with Baruch 6 and the other ca. 50% is with Letter Jeremiah.

(Ps maybe you have to change from [Alle] to [All] as another bug I reported is still in the queue.

It looks like only LXXG-JER, LUTH and GNB need to be updated. Research is showing Baruch 5 instead of Baruch 6 for many of those Texts. I've reported this bug in Research; I'm sure it will be fixed asap.

EÜ-LEM has LetterJ. Make sure you have version 1.4. But you're right about DSSB-E. I'll fix that asap.

Hello Mark

Do you have a newer version?

Yes. But we're having issues with Easy Install and module names with umlauts. Hope for a fix asap!

Thanks, I was wondering.

Full unicode support would be great.
