High Sierra and Accordance 10 -- upgrade policy

Helen Brown

Recommended Posts

There is an issue in the High Sierra OS, which doesn’t allow text to show in Accordance 10. All tabs appear empty.

This only affects this older version of Accordance, after an upgrade to Apple’s newest Operating System, High Sierra.

The free options to use as a work around, to overcome this issue, are to roll back High Sierra to any previous Mac OS, or to upgrade to Accordance 12 Lite.  Please be aware that the free Lite version of Accordance is limited in capabilities, compared to any full version of Accordance.

The best option is to update to the full version of Accordance 12 ($54.90).

In the same way no one is forcing you to upgrade to Accordance 12, no one is forcing you to upgrade to High Sierra. Stay with Sierra and you are fine. Unfortunately no software company can guarantee that their software will always run with every OS that comes out. Ironically enough it seemed to me that in classic OS it was pointed out properly programmed new OS would not break any older apps... That said very few programs were made to the exact standards following all apples rules perfectly. And that idea of near guaranteed backward compatibility left apple many many years ago with each release of OS X there has often been many things that became no longer compatible. It is not Accordance's fault that Apple changed the playing field and they are doing their best to keep their current program unto date and functioning. Accordance has in the past corrected older versions far past what most people have considered a reasonable time frame to do their best to keep customers who couldn't upgrade happy. 12 is a very good upgrade and the lite version gives you most of what you likely need.

One of the things I've always appreciated about Accordance is their upgrade policy. You can be on version 5, and the most you will ever have to pay to upgrade is about $60. With many bible software platforms, if you get more than 2 versions behind, you end up paying almost as much as you originally paid for the entire program. Right now, there's a 25% discount off upgrade prices!

With the exception of one piece of software i have to have a subscription for, accordance is the only software i have which i have upgraded with each new version from version 8 as there has been something in each version that is a must have and the upgrade is very reasonable for such a feature rich product.

As to os, i am still on mountain lion as adobe cs 4 or sibelius 7.1 are not supported on later os versions and i dont need to upgrade either software and dont want to start subscribing.

I certainly concur with others that its well worth upgrading accordance and supporting this excellent product, especially if you want to use the latest os.

As someone who happens to be a software developer, I can't express the level of effort and expense that would be required to continually update and test significantly outdated versions of a product with every new OS release — it would be staggering.  That effort would come at the expense of moving the product forward with new features, bug fixes, and content.   As a customer of Accordance, I would much prefer that this time and effort was spent on pushing the product forward for people willing to upgrade on at least a semi-regular basis.

Hello Aaron and welcome to the forum.

Well, Helen did not elaborate on what the issue is, but you never know, it might be fixed by Apple in an update to High Sierra.

While I sympathise with your situation, I think you will find that older software not working with the most up-to-date operating system to be pretty par for the course.

Having said that, I am still amazed that Age of Empires 3 works perfectly on High Sierra. I think it has worked on every version of Mac OS X since 2006.

If someone feels that Accordance’s upgrade policy is bad, they should seriously take a quick look at the competition. Accordance keeps the upgrade path super reasonable. And I concur with Rich’s observation. I would rather see resources go into keeping the software cutting edge for those of us willing to pay $60 every few years. Seriously. That’s just reasonable.

Thanks for the great work!

Helen, thank you for the update! The issue you stated is with Accordance 10 and High Sierra. My question for you and the rest of the community is whether I will experience any issues if I update to High Sierra with Accordance 11.2.5?

I was just about to upgrade from El Capitan to High Sierra and then looked this up before in the search function as I currently cannot afford to upgrade to Accordance 12 at the moment (my wife and I just had our first baby and I was laid off prior unfortunately so we are pinching pennies).

I obviously want to upgrade to High Sierra but don't want to run the risk of not being able to use Accordance 11 anymore and was hoping some of you could kindly respond in the event that you are running Accordance 11 with High Sierra?

Thank you all for the help!

We have had no reports of issues with version 11 and High Sierra. I am sure you will be fine.

Congratulations on the birth of your first child, what a momentous event!

Plus not only will upgrading to Accordance 12 work well with High Sierra, it's also well worth it overall. :-) I've thoroughly enjoyed v12, and it encouraged me to upgrade to a larger v12 library bundle afterwards.
