iOS Highlights and Accordance 12.1.4 Highlights Sync Issues

Not sure if this is an iOS app issue or desktop app issue.

 

I made a couple of highlights in my text in Accordance 12.1.4. Also made a couple of notes on the verse and then hit the dropbox sync in Accordance. I then went to my phone to pull the changes down to it and the only thing that synced to iOS were the notes. The highlights did not. When I hit the sync button again, iOS said nothing to sync.

 

So, I made a couple of extra highlights on my phone and hit the sync button. It sent the changes to the file in dropbox showing that the file had just changed. However, when I hit sync in Accordance on my laptop, no highlight changes were brought in. 

 

I then made some notes changes on my phone, sent the changes to Dropbox, and pulled those note changes onto Accordance, but again still no highlight syncing even though any highlight changes I make in either app shows the file is being changed and updated in the Dropbox folder.

Are you sure the Highlights are checked to sync on your desktop, under Preferences -> Syncing?

Yes it is. It's really strange because it seems that the issue is more on the side of the iPhone. In fact, I just made a highlight on my iPad and the highlight sync'd up to my desktop. When I tried syncing with my phone, that highlight does not show up on phone, even though the progress bar indicates there is a change coming down to it. What is odd is that changes to other features like user notes and tools are unaffected.

 

As a side note, I upgraded to iPhone 8 when it was released and restored from a backup. Not sure if this would have anything to do with it.

A couple of questions:

  • Which text are you highlighting? Are you sure it is the same version/name on your phone and desktop?
  • Did you notice any funny duplicate (name/ext) highlight files in dropbox.com > Apps > Accordance > Highlights ? (maybe the phone is pointing to a duplicate/restored highlight)

Another option is to Reset User Content on your phone to clean up old files and get a fresh copy from Dropbox.

  • The text being highlighted is the NIV (1984) with G/K Numbers on both phone and desktop.
  • There are no duplicated files in the location you mention. Everything looks the same and the same file in dropbox indicates a change to it any time I highlight in one or the other, but the highlights do not come into the text from Desktop to Phone or vice versa. If I make a change on my iPad, the file in dropbox is changed and the change appears on the desktop but not the phone. 
  • I also reset user content and my phone still does not see highlights made on my desktop or vice versa. 

The other strange thing about this is that I made a new highlight on my desktop, synced to dropbox and then synced on my phone. The phone said it was downloading the highlight, but the highlight does not show up in the text on the phone.

I'm having the same issue. Any solutions yet?

 

Interestingly my notes sync just fine...

Hi gjoakes,

 

Can you give us some more details about what issue you are having:

  • What are you highlighting?
  • What devices/desktops are syncing between and App versions?
  • Did you try creating a new highlight file to test with?

I have a same issue.

I highlighted some words of Basics of Biblical Hebrew Grammar on my iPad (iOS 11.3).

And I synced with Dropbox on the iPad and then on my Mac (Accordance 12, macOS 10.12.6).

But I can’t see changes on my Accordance for macos.

 

I can see that syncing highlights on iOS updates the file in Dropbox but syncing on macOS doesn’t.

 

Please fix this. :)

I have a couple of questions:

  • You said that the file updated on Dropbox, can you check if the local file was updated too? ( <user>/Documents/Accordance/Highlights)
  • Are you sure you have the same Highlight file selected in macOS ? (You can choose which Highlight file to work with via the Highlight popover or the Define Highlight Styles dialog box.)
  • Do you see previous Highlights displayed in Basics of Biblical Hebrew Grammar in paragraphs around the newly hightlighted text (from you iPad)?
