Martin Z
Hello, I reported it as a typo before. But it looks like it is not. Looks like all bible programs have this problem. For instance, in Dan 6:23, we have קָדָמַיִךְ. The pronominal suffix here is the Hebrew 2fs pronominal suffix, not the Aramaic 2ms pronominal suffix. (Sorry, the title of the post says Hebrew 2ms. It should be 2fs. I can't edit the title...) In the MT, the kethiv is קָֽדָמָיךְ֙, as it is shown in the BHS-T text in Accordance. The qeri is קָֽדָמָךְ֙, as it is shown in the HMT-W4 text in Accordance. (The kethiv is the plural form, the qeri is the singular form. So it is a Type 1 and Type 2 issue. Not a big deal.) But why is the kethiv in HMT-W4 pointed as קָדָמַיִךְ, which is neither a kethiv or qeri in the Leningrad? The same problem is with עֲלַיִךְ (for instance, Dan 6:14), another preposition with the 2ms pronominal suffix. Is there any reason behind it that I am not aware of? Peter Bekins
Martin, I assume that the reason why all the Bible programs would have the mistake is that all the texts derive from the same Groves-Wheeler Hebrew Morphology DB, which is responsible for splitting the mixed Ketiv consonant + Qere pointing in the main text into the interlinear format Ketiv [Qere] as well as positing a hypothetical pointing for the Ketiv. I would guess that they either ran an algorithm here that mistakenly matched the -YK consonantal pattern to -ayik or someone just made a mistake being unaware of the 2ms -ayk form. In other words, this doesn't count as multiple independent attestation The BHS-T surface text is in contrast maintained by the Dutch Bible Society and reproduces BHS (Ketiv consonant + Qere pointing). Martin Z
Thanks, Pete. If this is a mistake, I think it must be corrected. I could not believe it is a mistake. So I was wondering if there were something behind it that I did not know and wanted to learn something new.
Helen Brown
The text is maintained by the J. Alan Groves Center for Biblical Research, https://grovescenter.org/. Unfortunately their website seems to be in a transitional state and I see no easy way to contact them. We used to get prompt responses when we forwarded queries from users to them. I will try to get a new contact email to supply to users, since we at Accordance do not need to be intermediaries.
Helen Brown
Steven Salisbury has confirmed that they are still updating the database, and you can send him your queries or suggestions at steve (at) grovescenter (dot) org. He has always been very responsive to our comments.
