Unsuccessful search for text directly copied from Accordance

Hello,

 

I've run into an anomaly. I copied the quotation text below from the Hendriksen-Kistemaker NT Commentary in Accordance. Then I went on to other places in that commentary and thought it'd be a fast track back just to paste part of that copied text in the ENGLISH CONTENT search and I'd be right there. No go. At first it seems the quotation marks are hanging up the search. So I deleted them. Then "Matt." is unparsable to Accordance. Then the "16" is a mystery to Accordance's search engine.

 

Quotation: Though “church” in Matt. 16:18 and “kingdom” in verse 19 may not be identical in meaning

 

Why would it do this? I just took that text from that source and now it can't find it. Weird, if you ask me (you didn't ).

 

Attached are screenshots of the search and then when Accordance trips on the quotation marks.

 

Any help would be appreciated. And even just telling me a better way to go back to the place in a book where I recently was would be a help. I think I've seen feature requests for back and forward arrows. A history of recently locations would be a blessing.

The search in tools looks for the words in the field. Matt. 16:18 is in the Scripture field. Punctuation cannot be searched since it is used as symbols to indicate special characters, so the best way to search is to select some simple text, preferably with a less common word, and avoiding any hyperlinks and punctuation. For example the phrase "may not be identical in meaning" without the quotes, is found only in this one place in the commentary. You can replace punctuation with an asterisk, so "meaning * the Latter" also finds this location.

Eric, also do remember that there are Back/Forward buttons in the bottom right area of a Tool, so it is easy to go back after jumping around.

Joel, thanks for chiming in. Here's a screenshot of the tool. I put in a red circle in the area I think would be "bottom right." I don't see any Back/Forward buttons there. What am I missing here?

If you are just scrolling, we don't show the Back/Forward buttons, but if you jump somewhere (via Table of Contents, typing something in the area to the right of that 'L' button, or clicking on an internal link, you'll see the buttons to the left of the 'L'.

 

If you jumped due to running a new search, then the magnifying glass on the left side of your main search box can show you prior searches, so you can jump back.

 

Is there a situation we didn't cover in which one would need to jump back somewhere?
