so you're not a eunuch

As Matthew's Jesus continues to teach he answers critics like the disciples keeping children away and the "rich young ruler" keeping his riches. And he seems to give his dozen disciples a pass with this difficult statement:

 

καὶ πᾶς ὅστις ἀφῆκεν οἰκίας ἢ ἀδελφοὺς ἢ ἀδελφὰς ἢ πατέρα ἢ μητέρα ἢ τέκνα ἢ ἀγροὺς ἕνεκεν τοῦ ἐμοῦ ὀνόματός, πολλαπλασίονα λήμψεται καὶ ζωὴν αἰώνιον κληρονομήσει. [verse 29]

 

And it's interesting that Jesus to these twelve individuals does not mention leaving their wives, just their siblings and their parents and their children and their farms. Why not their wives?

By including this statement, overheard by us now, what does the writer of the gospel imply for us the readers?
