Can I uninstall/reinstall Accordance without disturbing texts & tools?

I'm having a couple of issues with Accordance 12 on my laptop and would like to uninstall/reinstall to see if that clears things up.  But... I don't want to have to re-download all the products I've purchased.

Will uninstalling Accordance automatically remove all my purchased products?  If so, can I backup the resources before uninstalling Accordance and then copy/move them back to their original location?  And, if that would be the required process to avoid re-downloading, what is the high level path name where the products are stored that I would need to backup?

Thanks in advance for all help!

Uninstall on Windows does remove all the files, and adding them back manually is tricky. Please contact our tech support experts for help with your issues. They usually do not have time to do support on the forums.

Thank you, Helen!  Not the answer I was hoping for, but better to know that in advance than to wish I had.

I will give Tech Support a call.  I guess I misunderstood the purpose of the Technical Support section of the forum.  I thought this was the designated starting point for tech questions/issues, then move to contacting support directly if efforts here failed.

You will get answers here for simple and universal issues, but this one is more complex.

If you were on a mac it would have been simple to tell you to delete the program and download a fresh copy..... but I guess in windows things are much more complicated.

Yeeup!  I must say it was very disappointing to learn the application and the resources are tied together that way.  In fact... unless my memory fails me, this is the first time I've ever had a Windows app that didn't separate the application from user resources in the uninstall process and at least provide the user with the choice of whether or not to keep the resources.  In fact, it's so fundamental to the typical Windows uninstall process that I came within a hair's breadth of uninstalling Accordance without even asking the question first.  Glad I didn't!

Rick, you do have an option when Uninstalling the program whether or not to purge all installed content as well.  So, if you decline that option they should be retained.  I believe then, a reinstall will give you a fresh program with maintained preferences and content.

THANK YOU, JOEL!!!  I'll give that a try.

OK, I gave that a try and here's what happened.  After selecting the "Uninstall" option, I got a popup window with the message "This app and its related info will be uninstalled" (italics are mine), and requiring me to once again select the "Uninstall" option if I wanted to proceed.  I was concerned about the part of the message that read "and its related info", but again selected the "Uninstall" option trusting that Accordance would give me the choice to opt out of uninstalling resources.  But it never did.  It just launched into the uninstall, then said it was successfully uninstalled.

I groaned...  :( and assumed I was going to have to re-download all my resources.  But before attempting that, I decided to double check through the Program Files, ProgramData, and Users folders for all Accordance related subfolders that might contain the resources and have been left alone/left behind by the uninstall process.  I didn't find any such folders.

I groaned again... :( and thought, "Well I better get started.", so I reinstalled Accordance and fired it up, expecting to then go through the download process again.  But to my pleasant surprise, the resources were still there!   :D

So... Accordance did NOT give me the option to keep my resources, but NEITHER did it delete them.  I'm very grateful they weren't deleted, BUT... I'm also wanting to know WHERE the resources are stored.  If not in a subfolder under Program Files, nor ProgramData, nor Users, then where?

Now I just need to reset preferences, remove items I don't want to see in my library, reorganize the library, then locate and reinstall the Aleph version of Accordance.

On Mac, if you click the Plus Icon at the bottom of your library, then click "Add New Modules..."  a file selection window opens, and defaults to the folder where your other resources are stored.  I'm not sure if that's how it works on windows, but if it is, you should be able to find the folder they are stored in that way.

That does indeed work on Windows as well, Silas.  Thank you very much for the tip!

Now for the strange part.  After reinstalling Accordance, I see the texts and tools folders in one of the places I had looked right after uninstalling Accordance and not being given that option to retain my resources.  I.e. the path name under which I now see the Texts and Tools folders is C:\ProgramData\Accordance\Modules\.  These folders were not listed there after uninstalling Accordance and I never re-downloaded my resources after reinstalling Accordance.  Yet somehow, the resources all showed up in my library immediately after doing the reinstall and the folders are now under the high-level ProgramData folder.  I don't get it!?!

Hi Rick,

I believe what you ran into was a defective 'Accordance Final Clean' file. This is kind of rare, but we have certainly seen this before. You can delete your current 'Accordance Final Clean' file which is located at: C:\ProgramData\AccordanceFinalClean so that you can get a new one when you run the Accordance installer again. If you would have had a good 'Final Clean' file, the second time that you clicked 'uninstall' it normally would have removed the program, the Accordance folder (which contains the modules and support files), your Accordance Files folder (which contains your personal user content) and your Accordance Preferences folder. You can always check the folder locations after an uninstall to make sure they are gone before reinstalling. You can also copy these 4 folders to a safe location or external drive before uninstalling so that you can selectively retrieve anything that you want to keep or restore after a clean installation.

In a normal Accordance installation on Windows (not on a server) the 4 folders which make up the Accordance installation would be located here:

1 - Program -  C:\Program Files (x86)\Oaktree\Accordance

2 - Modules etc -   C:\ProgramData\Accordance

3 - Preferences -  C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Accordance\Accordance Preferences

4 - User Content - Libraries\Documents\Accordance Files

To show hidden folders on a Windows PC:

Control Panel>Folder options>View>Advanced Settings box>Hidden Files and Folders>Show

To show hidden folders on Windows 10:

Go to: Control Panel>File Explorer Options>View>Advanced Settings box>Hidden Files and Folders>Show

This should help provide a better understanding of the Windows installation of Accordance. If you have any questions or if you would like to screen share about this at some point, please feel free to contact us here in support.

You can always run an Accordance installer (such as Accordance 12.2.4.exe) right over the top of your current one without removing any of your current modules, preferences etc. This will just replace the actual program but not the support files.

When you uninstall Accordance first in Control Panel > Programs and Features, this is when support files will also be removed.
