scanning notes in your paper bible and putting in accordance?

I am wondering if it is possible to scan my notes in the back of my paper bible and then load a .pdf of that into accordance for use there.

Has anybody ever done that or now if it can be done and how?

Thanks, Dave R

If you mean to be able to use Accordance searching facilities then a pdf would be no good. You can link to a pdf from a user tool or note but that is it. When you clicked on the link it would open the pdf.

If you wanted to load those notes into Accordance in some way then you would need to import that information into a user tool. That would mean you would need to create a text or html file from the pdf then load it. However it would really depend on the format of the notes you are talking about. If there was tables of information you would have to reformat it in some way.

What type of notes are you talking about?

Dave, I would also check your scanners instructions and software that came with it.

Most scanners have advanced settings including ocr (which has improved over the last 20 years) and you may be able to create this type of file directly without the need to go through pdf.

Pdfs have their place but so do other formats.

If the notes are in the back of your paper Bible I assume they must be handwritten.

Unless you have exceptionally clear cursive handwriting (and not joined up) I fear you won't get very far with trying to do OCR (optical character recognition).

You may get mostly accurate OCR with printed text. I do this all the time with digitising books and papers. There are plenty of options available but if it is handwritten notes you are better off just typing them up by hand—or using dictation software.

If you are referring to the 'reference section' included in many Bibles, yes it will OCR but the key thing is to have a scan at the highest possible resolution. What works for me is usually greyscale at 600 dpi. Sometimes I need to do a bitmap (b/w) scan at 1200 dpi if the text is very small.

Thank you for the many responses.

My desire is merely to scan the image and have the image as a .pdf available to look at, no need for OCR or searching.

Sounds like linking from a note or user tool to the .pdf I create is what I need to do.

Thanks again, Dave R

You can also insert the scanned image (jpg or pdf) directly in the notes file, which means you don’t have to worry about filepaths!
