User Note Merge

I have a note file entitled "Gospel Notes". It contains notes from all four gospels and I want to break it into four different user notes, one for each gospel. I am trying the "merge" feature by merging the "Gospel Notes" into the new note file (Matthew) but I had to individually delete each note that did not belong to the gospel of Matthew. Is there a way to do a wholesale note delete?
