X in search box not to reset field searched

Hi ya,

 

  I am putting this here, as my suggestion might not suit all tastes, so people can comment.

 

  When I am searching in tools I'll often enter searches for different types of search strings without changing the field searched. Using the X is convenient in erasing the previous string rather than backspacing N times, but it also resets the search field. This then means that I have to select the field again to run the search. For this type of use case having the X reset only the searched string would be more efficient. I could imagine tapping it twice to reset the field as well but honestly that's less of a concern for me.

How about a long press on the 'x' for a total clear and a single tap for a text box clear?

 

(He asks because the long press thingy is built in for an Android button (and therefore presumably more 'standard interfacey') and a double tap thingy requires a hack.)

This (long press to clear all) should be in the V1.1 general release. (Assuming there are no more betas...)

Ok got the update and this is a great improvement.

 

But ... (sorry always complaining - hardly seems fair as the app is doing more for me at each release) it would be better yet if after resetting, either long or short press, if the focus was returned to the search box so I can just type the next search. At the moment focus is somewhere else. I'm not exactly sure where. Now, where you are using the virtual keyboard this doesn't really matter because you will tap the search box to bring up the virtual keyboard, but on my Tab S3 with the keyboard attached I then have to make another tap. I know not a huge extra effort but ....
