Any opinions on Calvin's Institutes in Accordance

Hi,

I am wondering is anyone who is familiar with the module to give some opinion this?

The sale is going on and I'm considering if I should get it over another version (like Amazon's Kindle).

If you’re asking primarily about the same translation in the Accordance title vs. getting it on a kindle, I highly recommend the second part of this blog post

If you’re asking about this particular translation over others, perhaps a few folks can weigh in. However, I do usually hear from others that Battles’ translation is better than the public domain ones.

I love Accordance and wish that I have enough money to duplicate my purchases on other platforms and print here!

But yes, my question was more about the translation. Also, it does not seem to be tagged so I'm uncertain about how useful it'll be with the research search tab.

I think the search options available in the Accordance edition will make it extremely useful in Research or standalone study:

You can’t do any specialized search in the Kindle version, and as always, Accordance outshines any of our competitors in this category, too.

My personal preference is his French translation of 1541 translated by Robert White and published by Banner of Truth Trust (both printed and Kindle versions).

Battles and Beveridge translation is from his Latin edition and contains more technical and polemics than the French version. I’ve found the 1541 version easier to read and more “pastoral” in tone which makes sense since this was mid point as he was editing and expanding the Institutes. Also, as I understand it, his 1541 edition was written for the “man/woman in the pew”.

None of this should take anything away from the Accordance versions though.

Thanks for the quick replies!

Quick question. Is the Latin version later than the French 1541 edition or the other way around?

The French 1541 was first. The Latin was 1561 I think.

FWIW I had Beveridge and bought the Battles on this sale.

Thanks to both Mr. Wing and Mr. Mansfield. I decided to buy Battle's Calvin's Institute. I love the discounts!
