Schuele, Andreas. An Introduction to Biblical Aramaic. Louisville: Westminster John Knox Press, 2012.

This book is arranged as a reference grammar, but is written at an introductory level. It can be used by itself to learn biblical Aramaic, or can be used as a complement to another introductory grammar.

This is my favorite Aramaic grammar. Would like it in Accordance, too!

I wrote a review of it here for more information:

I have not personally used the grammar by Miles van Pelt, but I have heard great things about it:

Yes, Van Pelt is a popular teaching grammar. My personal favorite introductory grammars are Schuele and Johns, because of their technical precision from a linguistics standpoint. But it would be great to have any of these in Accordance.

+1

I don't have the time for Aramaic right now alas but if some of these could get into Acc that would be handy for me in my imagined future leisure when I could then take it up :)

thx

I would recommend:

  • A Grammar of Biblical Aramaic
  • by Rosenthal, Franz; Gurtner, Daniel M. (CON)
  • Edition: 7th
  • ISBN: 9783447052511
  • Format: Paperback
  • Pub. Date: 2/1/2006

And

  • An Introduction to Aramaic
  • by Greenspahn, Frederick E.
  • Edition: 2nd
  • ISBN: 9781589830592
  • Format: Paperback
  • Pub. Date: 6/1/2003

Much better texts but little more technical in nature

Cheers,

Matt C
