Question About Messianic Jews

Can anyone point to a good resource to learn about Messianic Jews that meet in synagogues on Saturday and Sunday? I have a friend that left Christianity to follow his Hebrew/Jewish roots (Even though he’s not a Jew). Here are some of the things he’s emphasizing that he just learned:

1. Everybody can serve Elohim because we all have the Torah.

2. They don’t believe Jesus is God (Deity), rather, just the son of God. They also don’t believe in The Holy Spirit because then you’d be worshipping 3 Gods and that’s sinful.

3. They believe you have to say Yeshua because if you say Jesus, then you’re not saying Jesus’s name right; AND you’re believing in a prefabricated Jesus made up by the catholic church.

4. They also believe that the Bible is corrupt thanks to the catholic church and the Greeks.

5. There’s also some kind of Hebrew alphabet code that can tell you if you have some “Jewish in your ancestors.” He claims he does and many people in Latin America and all over the world too.

6. And finally, they say western theology can’t be trusted.

These are some of the things this particular branch of judaism believes. They claim there are many branches of judaism but not all are right.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Your post caught my attention because I'm a Jewish disciple of Yeshua (though not a "Messianic Jew").  However, I'll encourage you to be more specific in your questions.  First, if you're interested in what your friend believes, why don't you ask him to explain it to you further?

What aspect of "Messianic Jews who meet in synagogues... / Hebrew Roots are you wanting to know more about?"

Shalom,

Toma

There are good resources available. among them: look for FFOZ or Netivyah, Jerusalem (sorry biased, I'm member there). David Sterns commentary is also good.

A little bit google is helpful. I personally will not answer your questions on the forum here, it's ok to discuss accordance issues but not your questions. Just my humble opinion.

There are these resources in accordance

Thanks for listing those resources.  Good to know they are here, though I'm not personally familiar with them.

I agree with Markus that Dr. Stern's "Jewish New Testament Commentary" (https://www.accordancebible.com/store/details/?pid=JNT+Commentary) is a great resource.  It primarily serves as a verse-by-verse commentary from the perspective of a Jewish believer in Yeshua.  It is, to be sure, a great resource.

I also just picked up the "Jewish Annotated New Testament" (https://www.accordancebible.com/store/details/?pid=Jewish%20Annotated%20NT), which I'm excited about, but which may be written from a more traditional Jewish (not-accepting-Yeshua-as-the-Messiah) perspective.  (I can't affirm the latter for certain though, and am just scratching the surface).

TYA, you are correct about the Jewish Annotated NT, it does however, make an excellent companion volume to the Jewish Study Bible. (Marc Zvi Brettler Is editor of both volumes.)

There are some very interest interviews on line with the editors, particularly ami jill levine about the thoughts behind the nt volume.

I can’t really ask what he believes because he just started learning these things like 3 months ago. So I don’t think he quite understands any of it yet.

Which Jewish branch doesn’t believe in the concept of the Trinity?

One must always scrutinize sources, but the Wikipedia article on Messianic Judaism does appear to contain general information on the variations of thought within those who may be considered by the general public as part of Messianic Judaism, though a definitive classification of groups creates strong differences of opinion among those involved in the discussion. It may also provide useful links.

Shalom,

Joseph

Reminding you all about the Forum guidelines. This discussion on doctrine violates them. There are other websites for the airing of views and opinions on doctrines, so please go there. I will be editing some of the above posts.

I’m sorry Helen (with all due respect), but I have not violated any rules. I mentioned the above ideas so people could point me to the right resources, not to dabate them.

I personally don’t have any desire to discuss something here; especially something I don’t understand because I haven’t researched the topic. I’m just looking for resources that’s all
