Hunter Deng Posted October 9, 2018 Share Posted October 9, 2018 I purchased several individual copies of NIV Application Commentaries in the past, today when I tried to purchase the whole set due to the discount, I am shocked that I have to pay for the items I purchase in the past. Paying for the item I have already paid for, whoa, so disappointed with your business practice after I spent almost two thousands dollars with you. Without having a better understanding (and even if you do) I'm not sure anyone here on the forums is comfortable with you calling other people "greedy" and "bloody." Sometimes these decisions are made by the publisher, not Accordance. Striving for understanding before acting seems like something that could be included in the NIV Application Commentary. I do recall on other threads that there are restrictions on switching from individual titles to sets, some of them imposed externally (by the publisher), others stated policy (the time between the initial purchase and the new one). Mansfield Posted October 10, 2018 Share Posted October 10, 2018 Hunter, the publisher often controls whether or not individual volumes can be applied to the full set for something like a custom upgrade. In regard to NIVAC, I happen to have three volumes on a competing platform. I just checked their webpage for NIVAC, and I don’t get any any break on the full set, even though I have three volumes already. If I wanted to purchase it there (I don’t!), I’d have to pay full price. I assure you we’re not being greedy, and I don’t even know how the word bloody applies. That seems like extreme hyperbole. Anyway, we always want to give you the best deal we can. We do give credit for purchases made within 90 days. Nobody told me that it was controlled by Publisher. I apologize called Accordance "greedy" and "bloody", I started using Accordance since I was in seminary, never considered other platforms. Michael Hunt Posted October 11, 2018 Share Posted October 11, 2018 I think there is a place for pushing back on publishers and asking that they offer a discount to customers upgrading individual digital volumes to a full set. Purchasing of individual volumes allows the publisher to recoup some of the costs associated with producing the whole set sooner rather than later. Purchasing individual volumes also wets the purchaser's appetite for the series that may eventually led to them upgrading to the whole set. I don't blame Accordance for not allowing upgrades as they are tied to publisher contracts, however I do see publishers tied to a physical model that many Pastor's find cumbersome having switched to digital purchasing.
