Charles Stock Posted August 21, 2008 Share Posted August 21, 2008 This week I got a new Mac Book Pro The migration went well! It is fast! But, I have a mysterious problem. When I copy a passage, I am in the practice of using Command-Control-C and then pasting it into my Pages document. I had this set for Helvetica as the default font. For some mysterious reason, it is pasting in Apple Braille; Pinpoint 6 Dot. The only thing that is the same is that it is sized at 12 points, which is what I had before. I can't find the place PREFERENCES/Citation where the font can be selected. How can I select the font used in the citation? Helen Brown Posted August 21, 2008 Share Posted August 21, 2008 You should in any case be using 8.0.4, not that I think it will make a difference here. The citation is supposed to export without a font preference, as far as I know. What setting do you have in your Greek and Hebrew? Is it set to Unicode export? Again, when pasting both Greek and Hebrew, the font is the Apple Braille, which I didn't even know existed. Where did that come from?! (Purely rhetorical question of mild annoyance.) Thanks for the Pages tip... I hadn't needed to use it before. It works in document I'm working on. However, I liked pasting in Helvetica while using a seriffed font. Charles Stock Posted August 30, 2008 Author Share Posted August 30, 2008 NEW OCCURRENCE! This has me dumbfounded! I took some user notes and simply copied them from Accordance 8.0.4. When I pasted them into Pages 3.0, this is what I got. I am assuming this is transliteration into Arabic. It doesn't matter what font I chose. It still defaults to the mystery font, Apple Braille, but when I changed it to Helvetica, it still looked the same. Is this some setting in my Accordance? Help! It works as expected, with and without Unicode conversion. I started thinking it was a corruption in Pages 08. So I threw away my iWork folder and downloaded a new version. I am still having the same problem. The Command-Control-C yields a paste into Pages08 3.0.2 as Apple Braille. Very strange. The same strokes paste into Word for Mac 2004 as Helvetica, which is what was going on with Pages up until a few days ago. The default normal font for the doc. is TImes New Roman. The same strokes paste into Mellel as Lucida Grande. The default normal font for the doc is Helvetica Neue So, my conclusion is that there is some incompatibility between Pages and Accordance that is new. This is going to cause me a lot of extra work if I continue to use Pages as my standard word processor. Any suggestions? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I know from my work with another app that other programs sometimes add Unsanity haxies to your system without telling you. Therefore I suggest that you look in the Library folder in both your Home folder and at the "root" level. Is there a folder named InputManagers in either place? If so, what items are within that folder? Lorinda At system/library/input methods there are seven files: KoreanIM Kotoeri PluginIM SCIM TamilIM TCIM VietnameseIM This is stuff I know nothing about. Do you see something that shouldn't be there? I also validated all my fonts. Out of 200+ fonts there were about 40 with mild problems. They were all ttf fonts. The weird thing is, this only happens with the Command-control-C function pasting to an iWork application. I tried it in Keynote and Numbers. Same problem in iWeb. I am puzzled. I am thinking I might throw out all the related plists, empty trash, restart and see if that helps. com.apple.iWeb.plist com.apple.iWork.Keynote.plist com.apple.iWork.Numbers.plist com.apple.iWork.Pages.plist Any great guesses out there? If you don't have any folders named InputManagers, you probably don't have the haxies I was thinking about. I don't have a folder called Input Methods, nor did Spotlight find KoreanIM on my computer. But I'm using Tiger; if you are using Leopard that might be the difference. I don't have Pages, but since you mentioned an issue with iWeb, I tried Command-Control-C copy and paste into iWeb, but it works for me. Pulling the plists sounds like a reasonable next step to me. My normal viewing text is 11pt Verdana. I have the citation paste font set at 9 pt (under Preferences/Citation). However, when I try a citation paste operation into a Word document it turns up in 12 point. Any suggestions? It's not User Tools, but a text - I just tried it with the NIV module. Pasting into Nisus Writer Pro or Pages makes it Apple Braille, Pinpoint 6 Dot. I don't have Silk, but I do have the following Input Managers: SIMBL Smart Crash Reports TextExtras Is one of those likely to be a problem? Lorinda H. M. Hoover Posted September 17, 2008 Share Posted September 17, 2008 I know that both SIMBL and Smart Crash Reports have been known to cause problems with NeoOffice. To check if they are the problem, remove any folders with those names from the following folders: /System/Library/SystemConfiguration ~/Library/InputManagers ~/Library/Application Support /Library/InputManagers /Library/Application Support Then reboot your machine and see if the problem persists. If it does, it's probably not those hacks, and you can replace the folders. You might want to try removing one system hack at a time, to figure out which one (if any) is causing the problem. Any text copied from a Bible text comes out as Apple Braille Pinpoint 6 Dot. I guess that the next thing to check is my login items, of which there are quite a few. Disabling all of the login items doesn't fix things, but running in a different account (one that hasn't been customised) does fix it. So there's still something around, perhaps in preferences.
