Thanks but a big question in my mind is Why no Gospel of John in the FF Bruce collection. There is a kindle edition of it so there must be an electronic text available.. https://www.amazon.c...g=UTF8&qid=&sr=

I’m still not sure about the F.F. Bruce Collection. And now that I see that the volume on John is not included, I’m still debating even more.

There was a bit of a mixup with the publisher regarding the John commentary volume. It will be part of this bundle at a future point, hopefully sooner rather than later. Obviously, it’s too soon to know what difference this will have in regard to cost. The purchase of the 19-volume bundle is still the best deal regardless.

One of the things I appreciate about the F.F. Bruce collection is the complete Open Your Bible Commentary (2 Volumes) (even though bruce only did Mathew. This small devotional commentary has much to chew on and when you are busy in  a day may offer real sustaining insight for you to mull over for the day. I know too much sharing is discouraged but I thought I would share what this set says in the passage I was studying today:

THE SECURITY OF THE SAINTS

PSALM 91

What assurance can you take from this psalm?

BEFORE READING THIS psalm meditate on Romans 8:28. We have to face the apparent contradiction between what God calls good and that welcomed even by regenerate people. Psalm 91 is true, but it is true only to the eye of faith. The psalm is poetry of a high order, and there is nothing to be gained by attempting a literally exact interpretation at any point. The dangers described can, according to circumstances, be interpreted of purely natural dangers, of the wiles of evildoers, and in some cases of demonic agency as well. Equally the terms describing divine protection are not intended to be woven into a logical whole. Whatever the need there is God’s care and shelter to be found.
There are two basic pictures. One is the man at home with God (91:1, 9); not the one who asks God to protect his home, but the one who is where God has put him, and the difference is very great. The other picture is of the one who goes out on God’s business (91:11). Again, this is not the one who asks God to protect his goings, but the one who walks the paths of God’s choosing. The promise in 91:14–16 shows that no guarantee of unrelieved prosperity, as the human concept goes, is involved. “Deliver,” “trouble,” “rescue” indicate an outward appearance which seems to contradict the inner reality. The man who wrote Romans 8:28 also wrote 2 Corinthians 11:22–12:10 and Colossians 1:24, but he was not conscious of contradiction. Man does not fear suffering, but apparently purposeless suffering. He does not shrink from early death, but from death that makes all his work void. It was summed up by an early Methodist preacher, “I am immortal till my work is done.”
Some find parts of the psalm callous, eg 91:7–8, but they are only a statement of fact. Repeatedly there is a flood from which to rescue Noah, a Sodom where there is a Lot to be saved. We must avoid two errors as we read the psalm. We may not claim its promises for our self-chosen position and activity. Again, we may not sit in judgment on other Christians who apparently have not experienced its truth.

Alright Dan and Mansfield, you have convinced me. I just bought the 19 volume set by F.F. Bruce. May not be his best work, but they’re classics 👍😁👌 Hopefully the John Volume will be here soon.
