Several Issues with 1.3.1b2

I am using the app a lot more often now, and the following issues are pretty common.

 

 

1) The app crashes randomly (often while highlighting text for searches or lexicon references).

 

2) The app gets into a mode where looking up a lexicon reference goes to a blank page i.e. no reference returned. I have waited several minutes to see if it would find the reference and update the screen but this does not happen. I can use the back button to return to the previous text, but if I attempt the lookup again, it goes again to the same blank page. Sometimes restarting the app resolves this, but other times I need to restart the device to get this fixed.

 

3) The app sometimes loses its place and reverts to Ge. 1:1 when I switch between Accordance and another app and then return to Accordance. This morning I was working in the Psalms and switch to my notes app, and when I returned I was in Ge. 1:1 (in these cases there isn't a "crash" but the app simply looses its place in the text.

 

If there is anything I can do to get data to help document this better, please let me know.

I have seen items 1 and 3 a bit. I put 1 down to my Note III on Android 5.0 and memory pressure but I have not got good diagnostics though I submit the crash reports if I can. I have not had the same crashing issues on my Tab S3 (Android 8) but my usage there is not quite the same. I tend to use the Greek and Hebrew bible texts on my phone and instant details lookups. On the Tab S3 I'm mostly going through Pratico and Van Pelt and looking up verses in the HMT/BHS. I am not using ID so much there.

 

I don't recall seeing 2.

Glad to hear you are using the app more often!

 

Thanks for the bug reports. A few questions to help narrow down the problem.

 

On #1, does the app crashes while actually selecting text? Or after trying a copy/search/etc on the selected text?

 

On #2, does the bug seem tied to a particular word? As in, if you get the blank page and then try looking up a different word, do you still get the blank page? Or only if you look up the same word again?

 

Also on #2, if this happens again in the future, try switching to dual-pane mode and back (or to single-mode and back if you are in dual pane already) and see if that fixes it. Knowing that could help me narrow down the problem.

 

On #3, I've noticed this bug myself but have not been able to reproduce it consistently or find the source of the problem yet. If you happen to notice any patterns in when this bug occurs, please let me know! (e.g., mostly in single-pane or dual-pane, mostly in texts or tools, after shorter or longer time away from the app, etc).


Also Mike, are all of these bugs on your Chromebook?

I am guessing that it isn't related to a limited amount of memory. I have 8GB of RAM and 128GB of SSD and I am seeing the crashes

The crash is after the text is selected when I choose "amplify->lexeme"

No, the problem happens with all words after it first starts happening. Shutting down the app and restarting usually solves the problem but sometimes I will need to reboot.

I have tried that, it does solve some issues i.e. when I cannot select the text, switching between dual pane and single pane will allow me to select the text, but it doesn't resolve this issue.

I haven't seen a particular pattern but it does happen rather frequently. 


Also Mike, are all of these bugs on your Chromebook?

No, I have seen these problems on my Samsung phone, Samsung Tab 1, and Chromebook.



One additional note: 

I have noticed that when the version displayed in the reading pain (in the 2nd pane in a dual pane mode) doesn't match the actually text in the window itself, the version being displayed is almost always LXX-GNT. Even when the LXX-GNT wasn't one of the last ones used.
