Wrong Hebrew Transliteration?

In Dan 8:12

וְצָבָא תִּנָּתֵן עַל־הַתָּמִיד בְּפָשַׁע וְתַשְׁלֵךְ אֱמֶת אַרְצָה וְעָשְׂתָה וְהִצְלִיחָה׃

עָשְׂתָה is transliterated as ʿostah.

עָשְׂתָהʿostah   (עשׂה) עשׂה־1 Verb qal perf 3 fem sing consec  to do, make (Predicate)

But it is a WeQatal verb, shouldn't it be transliterated as wǝʿāsǝtâh (the metheg is not consistantly present to mark Qamets in the Leningrad)?

Hi Martin,

Yes, it is incorrect. If עָשְׂ was a closed CvC syllable, transliterated ʿos , then there would be a dagesh in the ת . But there isn't, which shows תָה follows a vocal shewa. So the syllables are  עָ שְׂ תָה . I don't want to get into your transliteration - did you use "t" based on Modern Hebrew not distinguishing the sounds ת and תּ ? And, why ā and â for ָ    ? Nor do I want to discuss whether שְׂ is a syllable or half-syllable. The main thing is the ת without a dagesh tells us everything we need to know to transliterate and parse; metheg is not required.

Regards,

Michel

Thanks, Michel.

I got the transliteration from BibleWorks BHT module. It has its own transliteration system. I pasted it and did a little bit change. My main focus was on the Qamets/Qamets Hatuf error. So I did not pay much attention on the rest of the transliterations.

Martin, it is been a pretty difficult task for us to transliterate the Qamets correctly 100% of the time.  We'll keep looking into a more reliable algorithm, and thank you for the report.

Thanks, Joel.

Looks like when the metheg is not present, the transliteration is always qamets hatuf even in places it should be qamets.

I've seen a few other these cases.
