Jonah

The book of Jonah has come up for me at least 5 times without me doing anything to pursue that book in the last 3 months or so. Becoming familiar with the book because of that, I was able to determine that Jonah was a naturalist, caring deeply for God's creation, and the book ends in Jonah's agreement with God since Jonah no longer has any argument with Him considering God appeals to Jonah's naturalistic tendencies by mentioning the cattle/animals.

[Edit] Also, there are some very cool parallels between Jonah and Jesus. As Jesus calmed the waters and His disciples said "Even the wind and the sea obey him" this is representative that Jesus has authority over Jonah. Another parallel is that as Jonah cared for God's creation, but not man, Jesus extends this same love that Jonah had for God's creation to all of man.

Related to my previous post:

It seems the default commentary that I have with my version of Accordance (New Bible Commentary by Dougless Stuart) doesn't mention anything about the nature of Jonah as it pertains to his personality. To me, it's fairly obvious that what I said above is accurate when looking at the book as a whole. Also, I don't see in this commentary much that has to do with the parallels between Jonah and Jesus.

Is there a decent commentary that would cover these types of things i.e. the character or personality of those people in the Bible + (at least) the prophets parallels between them and Christ?

Still interested in something like this.

As it stands now, I have ~$12 worth of credit towards my next purchase I believe. I would gladly put that credit towards something along these lines.

More specifically, what I am looking for is information on either the parallels between the Prophets of the OT and Jesus OR information detailing the personalities of the persons who have written the bible. IIRC this is stuff is fairly specific so I would probably take what I can get. If you have a suggestion, I'd love to hear it!

Thanks,

Jesse D

I haven't read this commentary on Jonah fully, and the commentary is a bit older, but it is a good one, comprehensive on the entire (or almost the entire) Bible, and it includes parallels with Jesus:

You can always look at bestcommentaries.com for recommendations on commentaries.  These recommendations are pretty broad, though, and some of the "better" ones can get pretty pricey.  Each item has direct links to the Accordance store for pricing info:
