How to search for content on what a verb is?

I'm trying to do research on what characterizes a verb or action or behavior by someone.

I'm at a loss on how to search for something so broad. Naturally, I am looking into the verb עָשָׂה (do, make) for the Hebrew, but can someone point me in the direction of what to search for regarding the NT?

Hi Jesse,

The first part of your question sounds like a linguistics or lexical question - what are verbs of doing ? But if you are looking for verbs of doing and you want to start looking at 'to do/make' in Greek for the NT you would likely start with ποιἐω. For a list of such verbs of doing you'll want to consult a lexicon of some kind. The one that springs to mind first is Louw and Nida, as they list by semantic domain.

Thx

Hi, thanks for your post.

I am not in the position to make a purchase at this time. The tools I have available for a project such as this all the tools I have for the Greek and Hebrew Learner. My problem is kind of a semantic one since looking up the very idea of what a verb is hard to do (or at least IDK how to do it very well). Is there a way I can search for ποιἐω with what I have? IDK how to do it because I've never searched for Hebrew or Greek lexical terms directly. IDK where or how to do it.

There are two ways to try this quickly (there are likely others):

   1. open a Greek NT text (sorry I'm not sure which ones are included in the learner). Then in the search box type : poie and then select ποιεω from the quick entry list.

   2. open an English NT text with Strong keys (or English text and set the range to NT) and search for [KEY G4160]

Thx
