Is it possible to search for use created items in Atlas?

No, in the Atlas you cannot create new sites, only an overlay. The Timeline does create actual items, but that makes it much more complex of an interface.

I'd appreciate this feature too.

I was hoping to create a custom layer with site names in Arabic.

You should be able to create a User Layer with labels in Arabic. It just won't be as functional as a true site layer.

Thanks Helen.  It should have been exactly what I was looking for.

But sadly, it doesn't appear that the layer editor handles Arabic:

- changing the system keyboard produces unintelligible symbols

- pasting right-to-left text is reversed

Assuming this means that it isn't built for Unicode?

Too bad.  Otherwise would have been great.

Additional observation:

If I select "Salaam" as the layer editor font and change the macOS system keyboard to Arabic, then Arabic text is displayed, but left-to-right.

However...

If I exit the layer editor and re-enter it, the text reverses to the proper right-to-left.  But the only remaining issue is that the text is not fully connected, so looks a bit off.

So, not really a workaround, since it means looking at backwards text as you type.  And disconnected text.

Workaround that works!

  1. Type Arabic text outside of Accordance (in Word, Notes, etc)
  2. Copy and paste it into the Atlas layer editor.  It will appear reversed (left-to-right).
  3. Exit the layer editor.
  4. Re-enter the editor - the text flips back to right-to-left.  And properly connected.

Sorry for wasting forum space on my personal journey through Arabic fonts.  That'll teach me to post before playing with every possibility.

Well, yes, that editor dates way back before we ever incorporated Unicode or expected labels would be right-to-left text. You might try typing or pasting the Arabic into a search field that defaults to Arabic (i.e. for the Bible or Quran) and then copying from there into the Atlas label.

Good idea.

My lazy solution has been to search for place names in an English text with an Arabic Bible in parallel.

Thanks for all the help!
