Product reviews

When product reviews were on this forum, if you found the review useful you could 'like' it (as with any post) and often they sparked a discussion.

Having the review on the product page makes sense and I have written a number of reviews. While i try to be honest and not too controversal but i have no way of judging if what i write is actually useful or helpful or not other than the occasional message. I was wondering if others would find it helpful to have the amazon style helpful or unhelpful buttons and possibly a comment section added to the review on the product pages so others can see how helpful the reviews are within the community and reviewers can see if they need to modify their style?

Personally I tend to find the slightly longer reviews more helpful but wonder how many actually read them or are influenced by the review.

Thoughts?

I would appreciate seeing more engagement with product reviews.  Adding comments would allow for a clarification or a correction about an inaccurate description.  Slightly longer reviews are generally better, as long as they get at how the product was useful and in what context it is being used (Are you using it as a working preacher?  An academic?  Sunday school teacher?).  One doesn't get much from "Great product!"

I think a lot more can be done with peoples profile page to give that info so we can also see it on the forum as well as from the reviews

True, and I wouldn't mind seeing that kind of info on the forums.  But in a review, an academic by trade might see a particular product as most useful for a Sunday-school-level investigation.  A working preacher might not be as interested in deeply technical details as in homiletic ideas.

This has been mentioned before, but we’re engaged in a major effort to transition our current website to a whole new architecture. In the long run, this will allow us to add new features, perhaps like the ones being suggested here. We don’t want to put too much effort in our current website architecture since it will be going away.

And for the record, we really do appreciate reviews on the product pages, even if they’re just a few sentences. This really helps customers make purchasing decisions. Although the forums are quite active, more people see the product pages than visit the forums.

Two things: I often buy based on product reviews, and, for instance, UKFraser's reviews have been very instrumental in some purchases I've made here.

I don't have all the time in the world to review every product from Amazon, Ebay, or other things I buy, but with my special love and passion for Bible resources, and my newfound love for Accordance, I would love to write product reviews for others here at Accordance.

One problem: I keep a very low profile on the internet for important reasons I won't get into here, and would simply prefer to be able to submit reviews under my initials.  As it is, I have embarked on writing reviews, only to find that my full Account name would be posted with them.  That, I don't want to do.

So if the new website would allow me to post reviews without my full name, I'd be more than happy to do so.  Currently, there is a paucity of reviews, and that really needs to change.

TYA, if you have a spare email address I think you could create for yourself an account on the website that would not reveal your name to other readers. Currently we do not verify that a reviewer owns the product.

We'll certainly keep all these ideas in mind as we develop the new site, though initially it will probably look and function rather like the current site.

Beautiful.  Thank you for sharing this.  I really would like to contribute to reviews, because Accordance has been such a huge blessing to me.

Update: ghost writer is now in business!

I also would appreciate your reviews. I could imagine to buy according to your reviews.
