Donald Cobb
Hello all, I've come across an inconsistency with research on a combined text. In "my groups" I have combined NA28 and Rahlfs LXX, which should allow me to simultaneously search both modules in a single query. However, I end up with contradictory results when I do the following: (εν μεσος) <AND> (εν μεσος). When I do a search only in NA28, I come up with Rev 5:6. When I do the same search in LXX, I come up with Num. 26,62; Judg. 12,4; 1 Kings 6,27; 11,20; Ezek. 5,2; 19,2; 22,22.25; 29,12; 30,7; 43,7; 47,22. But, when I do the same search as: right-click in search window => "research" => [my groups] "LXX-GNT", I get a popup window saying "These words were not found in any of the tools or texts requested." I then tried a search with ('εν μεσω') <AND> ('εν μεσω'). This finally gave me the desired results. So why do I have to put the lexical forms in one search but the declined forms in the other? It's no big deal now that I know, but I did loose time trying to figure out the possibilities, and the logic is lost on me. Thanks!
Helen Brown
To find a repeated sequence you should use rather than . However, your search works fine directly in my LXX + GNT. I created a Group with just this text and got the same error, also with a search in All Texts, so I confirm that it is a bug in the Research panel. It finds εν μεσος but not (εν μεσος). The parentheses disrupt a phrase search in both Greek and Hebrew but not in English. and only in the Research pane.
Donald Cobb
Ok. Thank you Helen. I just tried εν μέσος <FOLLOWED BY> εν μέσος with "research" to [my groups] LXX-GNT and it gives the expected results. I also tried 'εν μέσω' <FOLLOWED BY> 'εν μέσω', and that works as well. So the problem does appear to be the parentheses. Thanks again!
