Solly
It is not often I have a chance to link topics of my professional training with the world of my passion—Biblical studies. Science Advances magazine published a report dated 06 Sep 2019 about an analysis of the surface material used in the eight meter long Temple Scroll from the DSS collection. Link: https://advances.sci...nt/5/9/eaaw7494 Science Advances is an official publication of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, a well respected organization within scientific, medical, and engineering circles. Ars Technica, an online science, tech, and tech culture oriented news outlet, produced a very nice general summary of the paper from Science Advances. Link: https://arstechnica....e-salt-coating/ The main take away thought as stated in the Ars Technica story: The bad news: these salts are very sensitive to moisture in the air. They readily absorb it, which in turn can further degrade the parchment. Masic recommends that preservationists bear this in mind as they continue to work to preserve the Dead Sea Scrolls.
