Can't change devotional for Today view in 3.0.3

R. Mansfield

Recommended Posts

EDIT: Graham asked me to post this to the public iOS forum to see if anyone else has run into this issue.

I was hoping to show this new feature in my webinar later today, but I can't seem to get the devotional default changed. It's showing one of the Butler titles (which I've actually never used, but this is a fresh install). I've tried moving a different devotional to the top in Tools: Devotionals assuming that would change it, but it doesn't. Also notice in the screenshot below that the devotional content in Butler isn't displaying correctly anyway.

I'm hoping someone will see this and provide a quick solution I'm overlooking in the next couple of hours before my webinar.

By me it worked to put the desired devotional on top of the daily readings IN the User Tool section.

Not in the daily reading outside from user tool.

Greetings

One thing to note, this was only happening on Rick's 12.9" iPad Pro. His phone was working just fine. I can't reproduce his issue, that's why we posted his question here.

Revisiting this again because I'd like to make a feature video of what's new in 3.0.3 and while I can show off the Today view on my phone, it's much more impressive in iPadOS.

I've cleared all the caches multiple times, made different devotionals my default and even moved the devotional folder around in the hierarchy to no avail.

Maybe I'm picking the wrong devotional. Which titles are working for any of you specifically running iPadOS?

I don’t know whether this will help but I see the same thing on my 12.9” iPad Pro, seeing the same message. I am using Accordance 3.0.3 but am not using iPadOS but iOS 12.4.1.

I had never tried this feature until I saw it on this thread.

So, I did find a bit of logic that needed to be adjusted for pinned iPadOS extension context. A fix should be forthcoming for that, but I still can't reproduce these error messages. For both the Butler and Experiencing God resources, whenever I select them they work just fine…  <_<

Still getting the same error in the new beta--3.0.4 (3.0.3.11447).

Really already wanted to have a video up by now of the new features. I'm tempted to uninstall and install fresh (even though this install is only about a week old)

Will do.

It seems unseemly to do one every day. Which is a shame because I've got lots of them I could post--more than what I'd have days for before the actual release!

Daniel. I believe they are woking on a fix.

You change the reading by going into library, scroll down to tools / devotionals {edit} and then drag your favourite book to the top of the list.  As I say it may not change the error sign... but you'll find that by clicking the icon it will still go to the preferred devotional of your choice.

3.0.4 is in the pipeline for release within the next few days, depending on Apple's turnaround. (Last time we waited almost a week for review, but then again, it was submitted the day iOS 13 released)

Okay, so a complete reinstall worked.

Here's what was different about my setup in case it matters. Although this was on a new iPad and was a fresh install, I had also restored from a backup. I believe it's just personal settings and user content that's brought over when you restore from a backup. So something was blocking the devotional reading, but what that could be, I'll leave to all of you (the developers).

So in the light of Rick's fix.  Is there anyway we can delete personal settings and user content without losing all the module data?  I know with some apps you can delete the app without losing the data.  Is this possible with Accordance?

Is it now possible to have TWO Accordnance App open next to each other on iPad OS?

Greetings

You could try and see if toggling "Reset User Content" in Settings.app fixes it for you. I'm not sure it would b/c that only removes user items (oddly not papers…) and does not reset any of your settings.

It is not. In order to support this feature we would need to make a whole lot of code changes. I've already got planned some large scale structural changes in the pipeline (absolutely no word on when they will see production), but it's a better choice to implement these than add a lot of Apple boilerplate code everywhere.

Thanks for the answer. So I guess the this is also true for Project Catalyst. And full Shortcuts support.

Thanks

Greetings

Graham, sorry to take up your time on this, but "Reset User Content" didn't work.  In the light of your previous comments about the Experiencing God resource, which is my regular devotional.   Should I wait for the next update, which I think you said is on the way, or just cut my losses and do a complete delete and reinstall? It's a bit of a nuisance, but perfectly manageable. Thanks for your work on this, Accordance is an indispensable app.

3.0.4 might fix your issue, but I'm not sure about that. The big thing I found with iPadOS and the today extension was that when the extension was pinned there were edge cases where its view loaded with old data and thus wouldn't show your updated devo/recents until you went into another app and came out or swiped to another home page and back.

The issue you and Rick (and potentially others) were having has to do with some kind of corruption that occurred in upgrading to iPadOS 13/13.1. I have not been able to nail down how/why this corruption is occurring.

I decided to take the plunge and do full delete and reinstall.  It fixed the problem by removing the error and giving me the proper info...   Until I woke up this morning to find that the error sign had returned.  I'll now leave it to the experts to find a fix.

p.s. Rick, is your's still working?

Ok, here comes a number of questions. We've got to nail this bug.

1. Could you give me a list of the devotionals on your machine?

2. Is Experiencing God still your top one?

3. And switching doesn't work to fix it?

4. What model iPad?

Thanks Graham...

1. If the truth be told I have nearly all the Accordance devotionals that are available on my iPad...

Experiencing God, Greek word for today, Spurgeon, Ancient Christian, Moody, Bonhoeffer, Murray and Streams etc,. with as many scripture reading plans.

2 & 3. Experiencing God is my main devotional, but I have tried switching to most other books, without success.

4. iPad Pro (10.5 inch)

Just a feature request.  It would be convenient if we had the ability to switch off the devotional part of the widget..  I would be happy just to have the 'most recent modules'.  That has been the most helpful part of the widget to me. This would also have the advantage of making more modules visible for quick access.  A toggle button may even fix the problem... but even if it doesn't we have the ability to switch it off.

Yes. Checked to make certain. Interestingly, yesterday, it was not working properly on my iPhone--same error message. I did not take the time to try to troubleshoot it. Today, everything is working correctly not only on my iPad, but my iPhone, too.
