TYA
Accordance crashed (sudden vanish) three times in a row when trying to search the phrase "word of the Lord came" or "the word of the Lord came" in the Research Tab. The first time was when searching within an established Workspace. The next two occurrences were after opening Accordance afresh, closing all tabs, and manually opening a single Research Tab window. Nothing else opened, but Accordance still crashed trying to do this search. 13.0.0.1 Now a fourth time with quotation marks around the phrase (to make it exact, instead of flex). Then restarted the whole computer afresh. Reopened Accordance, and used this "within" search in the Research Tab in hopes of bypassing the bug. word <WITHIN 7 Words> Lord <WITHIN 7 Words> came <WITHIN 7 Words> to Still crashed again. Then rebuilt the entire Research cache from the Preferences. No help. Nothing seems to work to find the phrase "word of the Lord came" across All Texts. Final note (as I've now spent 20-30 min. on this one issue (!)): I've tried searching "All Texts" and "All" in the Research Tab. No difference. Crash, crash, crash. Mark Allison
I'm not getting a crash in Windows with the same search, so I'm wondering if you have a corrupted Text. Perhaps a User Text that you've created? You may want to try creating a group of a subset of your Texts and adding to the group until you get a crash. TYA
Thanks, Mark. I did exactly as you said. I built a custom group with only my user-created texts, and ultimately, all of my user-created texts. And the result: no crash when searching word <WITHIN 7 Words> Lord <WITHIN 7 Words> came <WITHIN 7 Words> to I did, however, continue to get crashes when searching word of the Lord came I then created another user group, this time, building it only with Accordance's native texts. (I was just so so curious to know if the problem was really with me.) And guess what: 100% crashes with word of the Lord came. So, based on your explanation and instructions, word of the Lord came is crashing because of Accordance--not because of any text I created. Now, here are the texts I compiled in the Accordance test group, which is crashing when searching word of the Lord came American Standard Version Ang Biblia (Tagalog) Apocryphal Acts English Apocryphal Acts Greek Apocryphal Apocalypses English Apocryphal Apocalypses Greek Apocryphal Gospels 2 English Apocryphal Gospels English Apocryphal Gospels Greek Apocryphal Gospels Latin-Tagged Apologists English Apologists Greek Apostolic Fathers (Lightfoot) Apostolic Fathers English Apostolic Fathers English (Lightfoot) Apostolic Fathers Greek Apostolic Fathers Latin Arabic (Smith & Van Dyke) Arabic NT with Strong's Athanasius English Athanasius Greek Babylonian Talmud Folio Babylonian Talmud Folio (Complete) Basil English Basil Greek Ben Sira English Ben Sira-Canonical Order Ben Sira-Manuscript Order Bibel 1917 (Swedish) Bible in Basic English Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia Tagged Bishops’ Bible CEB (parallel texts) CEI1974 (Italian) CEI 2008 Qtalian) CEI 2008-2 (Italian) Common English Bible Comprehensive NT Coptic Bohairic NT Coptic Sahidic NT Cornilescu 2014 (Romanian) Critical Edition of Q (Lukan Order) Critical Edition of Q (Matthean Order) CSB (2017) with Strongs CUV (Simplified) with Strong's CUV (Traditional) with Strong's Darby Translation Delitzsch Hebrew NT Douay-Rheims Bible DSS Bible-Canonical Order DSS Bible-Manuscript Order DSS Greek Bible-Canonical Order DSS Greek Bible-Manuscript Order Easy-to-Read Version Egyptian Greek NT Elberfelder 1905 (German) Q| English Revised Version Epictetus English Epictetus Greek ESV w' Strong's As you can see, I just began going down the list of texts in my Library and choosing those that belong to Accordance in alphabetical order. I've now tested and gotten the crash ("vanish") three times in a row with this Accordance-only group. But on the other hand, I also get the crash when using my new group of user-created texts also. So it's crashing whether I use Accordance-only texts, or user-created texts. ***ALSO*** returning to what I posted in beta testing here, I decided to retest Messiah <WITHIN 4 Words> the. As I posted in beta testing, I was getting crashes / "vanishes" on that in the Research Tab. I've just tried it again with both of my new test groups (viz., Accordance-only and user-only). It didn't crash with either of them. But it did crash when searching with "All" selected (i.e. all resources universally). JonathanHuber
Have you tried rebuilding the Research cache, under Reading/Research in preferences? Sorry, missed that you did that already. Hope you can figure this out. Edited November 11, 2019 by JonathanHuber
TYA
Thanks Jonathan. Yes, I did that, as indicated in the first post above. Edited November 11, 2019 by TYA
Mark Allison
Can you post your crash log? I don't have as many Texts installed in my Windows install as you do.
TYA
Crash logs. What are those? LOL. Mark, talk to S.M. and J.B, as they've worked more intimately and know my situation. I've never gotten crash logs from day 1 with Accordance, back in 12.3. For me, I only get a crash log in one circumstance: immediately after upgrading to the next release of Accordance, opening that newest version, and closing it ("File -> Exit")--without a crash. In other words, when I get the rare opportunity to close Accordance without a crash, then I'll occasionally be offered a crash report. Instead, what I have experienced for the last year+ is an average of 3-7 death freezes, crashes, or sudden "vanishes" per day. And the latter is what I'm experiencing above. What I mean by "vanish" is that one second you're using Accordance. You blink your eyes. It's gone, as though you weren't even using it. On rough days I experience some combination of these about 15-20 times per day. Just depending. On a good day, and I mean good day, maybe 1-3 times. S.M. knows the gritty details more than anyone else. Mark, back to this issue above. Here are some new tests, after rebuilding the Research Cache a second time (since Jonathan kindly asked about that). I rebuilt Research Cache, and then restarted my entire computer. Opened Accordance for this new round of tests below, and here's what happened. word <WITHIN 7 Words> Lord <WITHIN 7 Words> came <WITHIN 7 Words> to .... Accordance-only test group (FLEX): no crash Accordance-only test group (EXACT): no crash User-only test group (FLEX): no crash User-only test group (EXACT): no crash "All texts" (FLEX): crash / vanish "All texts" (EXACT): crash / vanish "All Tools" (FLEX): no crash "All Tools" (EXACT): no crash word of the Lord came ..... Accordance-only test group (FLEX): crash / vanish Accordance-only test group (EXACT): no crash User-only test group (FLEX): crash / vanish User-only test group (EXACT): no crash "All texts" (FLEX): crash / vanish "All texts" (EXACT): crash / vanish "All Tools" (FLEX): would take too long to run "All Tools" (EXACT): no crash Interesting results. They would seem to me, logically speaking, to absolve me of any particular culpability. It isn't only my texts or tools causing these problems, as you can see.
