Not an Accordance 13 problem, per se, but a tagging problem

I've been playing with TEXT search – thank you so much for this new feature. I can see that this is going to be very, very useful.

 

Watched part of the recorded Webinar, "Exploring the Power of the TEXT Command", and paused to try a similar search.  

 

Here is a screen shot of the using the NAS95S against the GNT-28 –

 

 

Only 5 hits.  I had already done a search in the GNT-28 for γίνομαι in the optative, so I knew I was missing some hits.  There should have been 17.  Also, in Rom 7:7 a completely different verb is highlighted (ἔγνων); in Rom 3:4; 7:13 a different use of γίνομαι is highlighted (γινέσθω, γένηται).

 

I changed my English text to the ESVS and got this (two shots to get all the hits) –

 

 

 

With the ESVS, I get all 17 hits.  The NAS95S tagging (which I know was not done by Accordance) has some serious problems.  Most of the other tagged versions I checked also got the full 17 hits.  The CSB came up short, though the HCSB was fine.

 

  Is there any hope at all that this might be corrected?

Hmm... I replicate your results, and that's just strange. The search is actually conducted on the Greek text, but it's looking for a match in the English version.

You must be right that the NASB tagging is messed up. Even in the five it returns, a few of them are not matched to the optative verb. And for some it misses (e.g., Luke 20.16), the NASB doesn't tag or point to the verb at all, which is why it fails to find it.

I've seen tagging problems with the NAS95 before.  I think Lockman did the tagging and it's pretty sloppy. In my opinion, all English versions have some warts, but my Greek is not good enough that I can abandon an English version, and I still prefer the NAS for accuracy.  My Hebrew is rudimentary, and my Aramaic is non-existent.

 

I thought it was odd that the HCSB was so well tagged, but the CSB wasn't.  (I think the HCSB is superior to the CSB anyway, so no loss there for me.)
