Since the Accordance Dark Mode is forced on us when iPad is globally set to Dark Mode, would you please reconsider the color choice for red letter text in Dark Mode? The contrast is much too low and it hurts to read large sections of red letter text. WCAG 1.4.3 [1] recommends a contrast ratio of 4.5:1 for regular text, at a minimum (Level AAA, section 1.4.6, recommends 7:1). Grabbing the colors from a screen cap, the Accordance app has a contrast ratio of about 2.7:1[2]. Please consider finding a color[3] that has more contrast than the current choice and is easier to read in Dark Mode. I'm butting my head very hard trying to work around this but it's extremely troubling, and as far as I know I have perfectly normal eyesight.

Thank you for your consideration.

What Randy said. I find the contrast to be too low for regular letters also. The grey-on-black is too dark for a desktop or laptop application. I could see this contrast ratio maybe on a phone for when you do your devotions in the early morning, but that's about it.

I’m so frustrated with this I don’t know what to do. I have a huge investment in Logos but was so happy to switch to Accordance when I found out I could get offline searches and lookups. I was happy to fork out for an iPad and buy again all the resources I needed. And up until now I have loved Accordance. And now this. I have to turn off dark mode on iOS which has made everything else better because one app forces me to use a poorly designed dark canvas for reading. NONE of my other apps do that. NONE. Do the research. Dark mode is great for UIs. It’s great in certain low light situations when you don’t want to be a flashlight. It is NOT better for reading. Research it. So why am I forced in to it? Force the UI if you want. But please don’t make me read this horrible looking design. That’s not just a subjective view. It violates all good design guides for accessibility and does what no other reading app does by forcing it on you. Please let me opt out of this.... PLEASE!

And please excuse my, undoubtedly, poorly expressed frustration.

Randy,

I'm sorry for the frustration you are experiencing. The iOS application is definitely still at work in matching the desktop experience with customizations, but rest assured they are coming. While I can't make any time estimates it is on our radar to decouple UI dark mode from the system setting as well as implementing the full range of Text Display customization options.

Thank you, Graham. It's great to know that it is on the radar. I apologize for my frustrated words; it's just that this changed a very enjoyable experience into a very painful one. I know I can disable Dark Mode for iOS, but it really has made most things look better. Unfortunately, it's just not comfortable or productive for reading large amounts of text in a reader application. Thanks for letting me know that there may be hope.
