Notes module for New Jerusalem Bible

I have been a loyal Accordance user since 2008. I was thrilled to learn that my favorite Bible, the New Jerusalem Bible, was available for Accordance! However, after using it for years, I find that it's missing the very extensive NOTES available in the print version. I have contacted Accordance support several times about this and have been previously advised that it was forthcoming. More recently, I was advised to post a request for it here.

 

So, Accordance, first of all, WHY aren't the notes included for the New Jerusalem Bible?

 

Secondly, PLEASE make them available for us soon! They are so extremely valuable to us Catholics!

This has been requested in many threads over the years (decades). It is an old module, so I suspect the Accordance was not provided with the e-text of the notes, tables, etc.

 

Nonetheless, it would be fantastic to have them!

This is a GENERAL problem with Accordance and not only related to the NJB. The list would be too long if I list them all here. Unfortunately this behavior of not asking the publishers for ALL content and develop it (fear of go in misscredit by the publishers? or they fear the amount of work to implement it in Accordance?) brings not the amount of help a Bible software SHOULD. Even some Websites are now better than Accordance and in Logos I can make PBB that are better than some purchase Bibles from Accordance.

In fairness to Accordance and to Doubleday, this module was developed fairly early in the history of Accordance (I bought it under Library 3 in 1998, i.e. Accordance 3.x). I strongly suspect that Oaktree Software was never provided with any electronic text other than the biblical text itself. It would be interesting to know who developed the base e-text. The other materials may not even exit in electronic form.

 

Also remember that Oaktree is a small, privately held company. It does not have infinite resources and has to prioritize the use of those resources. They do quite a bit of development of modules (think scholarly) that probably do not bring in much return on investment (and are perhaps a loss that must be offset by more popular modules). While I certainly would purchase the notes and other materials in the NJB, I wonder what the real demand is, and whether this warrants the development costs.

 

I do not work for Oaktree. These thoughts are personal reflections. I am grateful to God and to Oaktree for the many wonderful resources they have provided at sometimes astounding prices. As one who came to their program when it was acCordance 1.1a, I have long experienced their practice of the golden rule and promotion of biblical studies countless times. Thank you Oaktree.

I would gladly pay for a note upgrade to go from "reader" to "standard" edition.

but beware there is a new revised edition and it looks like the notes have been totally revised from one author. Having said that, i cant see the contributors being attributed in my original hard copy.
