mgvh
Running Acc 13.0.3 on Windows 10. I can cause the program to freeze every time by: Conduct a TEXT search on the LXX using [HMT-W4] for a Hebrew root. The search runs fine and returns the results. Clicking to view Analysis causes the program to freeze, and it must be forced to close. There also seems to be something about how it interacts with Firefox (72.0.1), because the browser also becomes frozen when Accordance does. No crash log to share. TYA
There also seems to be something about how it interacts with Firefox (72.0.1), because the browser also becomes frozen when Accordance does. I'm on Windows 7, and for what it's worth, Accordance frequently / regularly freezes my other programs in Windows. It is extremely annoying, and that's when Accordance actually isn't crashing. When it's freezing or crashing, things are far worse. I sometimes lose complete control over my computer. So weird. No other program commandeers my computer like Accordance. mgvh
I just tried the procedure again and let it run longer. After 10 minutes, still no Analysis generated. I checked Task Manager, and here's what it reports. I do have quite a few resources open in Accordance. I do have 12GB RAM, but 1.4GB is quite a lot. For comparison, I opened my Logos program where I have even more resources open, and it only took half that much memory.
Λύχνις Δαν
Hi Mark I just tried: Open new ws Open new tab on LXX Rahlfs Tagged Run search : [HMT-W4 +אב] Open Analysis tab. The search took longer than the opening of the Analysis pane. But neither was long. Is my test the same as what you are doing ? I'm running an i7 Windows 10 with 16GB RAM and all SSD. Task Manager shows about 70MB allocated to Accordance at this point. I've not been a great deal of searching in it in this session though. Thx D Edited January 15, 2020 by דָנִיאֶל
mgvh
I have an i7 Win10 12GB RAM SSD + HDD Tried running in a new, clean workspace as you suggested. Same problem with freezing and 1+GB of RAM usage.
Λύχνις Δαν
And did you restart Accordance so it was clean at the outset ? It would be good to know what memory Acc is using once it starts fresh on your system. But if all of that memory is being allocated running the test I did above, or one very like it that makes me wonder what's going on. I can imagine it being large if you had done a bunch of searching but even so I don't recall it ever getting to a GB but maybe I just haven't noticed. In order to narrow things down a bit I would try starting Acc with just one default workspace for just this search and see how much memory that allocates. I am suspicious that something else is allocating all that memory and that this query is just the unlucky last straw. Either that or my test is not reproducing what you are seeing. Happy to try another test if you can give me details of exactly what searches and modules. Thx D
mgvh
So... I did a complete reboot. No other programs running. Started Acc as usual w/ all my usual resources. ~200MB RAM used. Opened new workspace. Closed the old, so I only have a blank workspace with no resources. Still ~200MB RAM used. Ran the search. Worked quickly. Still ~200MB RAM used. Clicked to get the Analysis... and RAM usage jumped to 1.1GB. Let program run for nearly 10 minutes. An analysis window eventually opened but with no results. Λύχνις Δαν
Ok that's definitely different from what I am seeing, running this test. The opening size with your defaults makes sense with a few resources present and some searches being reinstated, but there is something data related in the search it sounds like. I cannot retest until tonight but if you could post back with the exact query you are running I can try it out. Thx D
mgvh
With the LXX open, I use the TEXT search. The exact search I was using is: [HMT-W4 +ראשׁ] [RANGE Genesis] I added the range to speed things up. Again, the search runs fine. It's trying to get the ANALYSIS that chokes things. BTW, I now have my usual set of resources open in Acc, and it's running in the background, and only use 45MB RAM.
Λύχνις Δαν
Ok, just tried that and it ran fine. And Accordance is about 129MB but I have several workspaces open. So I am clearly not seeing the issue you are seeing. I'm on 13.0.3. as you are. So now I'm kinda out of ideas. I tried it with Swete and Rahlfs and it worked fine both times even without the RANGE restriction. Oh hang on. How is your Analysis page configured ? Do you have it show MT/LXX info or other such stuff ? If I have MT/LXX Word and MT/LXX Lex selected then it repeatedly pops up a Performing search dialog while working to populate the Analysis tab. I noticed that while that is going on I have trouble typing in this post - very slow .... Ok and trying to interrupt it I eventually had to kill it off. I cancelled the search and that led to it hanging and becoming unresponsive and that affected my whole system. Once I killed it off things returned to normal. A few previous tries cancelling worked but not this time. Thx D
mgvh
Thank you, Daniel! Yes, the point of my search was trying to find how the LXX translates ראשׁ. So I ran a simple search for a Greek lexeme (not using TEXT), opened Analysis, all good. Cleared out the column I had customized to display MT/LXX so just the LEX showed, set it as Default. Ran the TEXT search, and Analysis opened up quickly. Tried to customize by adding MT/LXX LEX ... and the program froze. So there's the problem. I know it was working before (a few weeks ago?), so something's changed. I hope it can be fixed! Edited January 16, 2020 by mgvh
mgvh
More testing... Adding just the LEX to the customized display in Analysis works perfectly showing all the Greek words for the Hebrew word. Adding either MTLXX Lex or MTLXX Word is what freezes everything. All the other other analytic options (Hits, Bar, Concordance...) work fine, including Analysis Graph even when it is showing MTLXX Lex or MTLXX Word. Am I misunderstanding what MTLLX Lex or MTLXX Word do?
Λύχνις Δαν
I don't believe you are misunderstanding what it's for. In any case if it is possible to do this it ought not too hang and crash as it does. At least we now have a test case for the developers to examine Thx D
Diatheke76
What happens when yo click “Skip this version”? I saw an issue with Paper posted and I want to avoid it for now by not installing this version. Does everything new gets installed in the next version if I skip this one? Or will I miss out on a feature if I don’t install it?
mgvh
I'm in the beta program, and the latest beta fixes the problem. I'm sure they'll roll out in the regular one soon enough. Good job, Accordance!
