Accordance Crash by Shutting Down the Mac

Hello

Accordance 13.0.4 crashes by shutting down the Mac Book Pro with the on/off button. It is the only app that crashes and the only one which has the jumping icon by restart.

I would love if it doesn't crash and the (in my opinion annoying) jumping Icon, doesn't jump.

I've experienced this also. Do you use dropbox sync? I think that's the reason for this issue which pops up for me every now and then.

No, I don't use dropbox per se.

But I see now: on my MacAir there is it on "Manuell" and on the MacPro it is on "Automatisch". So this can definitely be the case. I just restart Accordance on the MacAir and there it is o.k. So I guess you lead me and the devs to the right direction.

The next problem now is. On both Accordance, the Sync to choose between automatic and manual is greyed out, so I can't change the preferences. Even the elements to sync are greyed out.

So two things are going on:

1. the crash when dropbox is on automatic

2. the greyed out buttons to change the preferences.

Accordance I believe is also causing my Mac to restart. It also crashes without restarting the computer often. Upgraded a week or so ago so not really sure about the sequence of events leading up to it.

Not using Dropbox sync.

Really enjoying a lot of the new features.

Still present with 13.0.5

I'm also not able to make changes in the Sync Preferences.

Fabian, can you send me a crash report?

Sorry I get no crash report, except after the new start the pop up says it has crashed.

I cannot reproduce this, so you may have a tab or workspace that prevents an orderly shutdown.

Can you send me a copy of your session?

Can you test if the crash occurs even if only one workspace with only one text is open?

Hello Silas

I have now deleted the Startsitzung. post-32723-0-38635300-1602522795_thumb.png

The problem pesists.

I have this also by the simplest workspace.

Sorry I have forgotten how to send the session, I think you have told me one time. Or do you mean the WS?

There is a "Save Session" option in the file menu.  This should save ALL open workspaces to a single file.

But there is no need to send the session now, if you're sure it's happening even when you only have a single simple workspace.  That said, I'm now out of ideas as to what the problem might be.  What version of MacOS are you running?

Hello Silas

I have this on my both Macs. On the Air with 10.14.6 and on the Pro with Big Sur but I had this also with Catalina.

Have you tried to shut down with the on/off button?

I usually use the apple menu.  I'll try the button.

If I only shut down with the Apple Menu. Then Accordance don't crash. But by restart Accordance is the only one which jumps (annoyingly). All other apps starts without any visual effects.

Hello Fabian

Yes you will crash Accordance if you don't follow the proper shut down procedure.

This is what I do and never have any problems.

Follow this procedure:

Quit Accordance and then shut down

Go to Accordance drop down menu in the menu bar and select Quit Accordance or Command Q first.

Accordance has to be open to do this.

Never use the on/off button to shut down with the app still open.

Yes you will get a notice saying you didn't shut down properly.

Always quit all apps before shutting down.

Follow this:

Always close out and then shut down.

1. Click on Accordance next to the Apple Icon in the menu bar then click on Quit Accordance or Command Q.

2. Click on the Apple icon in the menu bar and select Shut Down...

It will say: Are you sure you want to shut down your computer now? Click on the Shut Down blue button. Done

Try this it should help you.

FYI

If Accordance ever freezes up on you. Do this:

Click on the Apple icon and select Force Quit...

If an app doesn't respond for a while, select its name and click Force Quit.

Then press the Force Quit blue button. Done

The annoying jumping Accordance icon on the dock can be fixed by doing this:

Click on System Preferences select Dock Icon.

Deselect: Animate opening applications

If yours is selected the Accordance icon will jump or animate.

You can also hide and show the dock if you don't want to see any applications.

Deselecting animate opening applications will make your computer run a little faster too.

I speak Mac. Do you fischtein? Just joking!!!

Works for me but then I may be wrong. Try it and let us know.

Sometimes a quick and easy fix for problems is to restart the computer.

Hope this helps

Hello rgallo

Many thanks for your answer.

I will replay to your first paragraph.

No I don't will do that. This is so old-school, then I can go back to Kickstart 1.3, and Win 3.11. But the earlier Kickstart 1.3 was even better than 3.11.

Long story short: Nearly all apps/programs I have working just fine. I can shut down the Mac and restart and all is like before. Without any clicking etc... from me. The best example is BBEdit.
