Downloading from Easy Instaell Extremely Slow

I'm guessing that your host for your book files is having a problem because for weeks now the process to download in Easy Install takes forever. I can download a large file from another source and it's pretty fast on my fast home cable internet connection, but getting about a fifth of my library (less than a Gig) is taking hours. Again Accordance is the only place I have this problem

Our host is the very standard and ubiquitous AWS.  Can you try from a different internet connection (coffee shop, friend's house, church, etc.) and see if you have the same issue?

I'm also not able to download the 13.0.4 again. It stop after some MB and won't go further.

This is also my experience with the Accordance servers in general.

I have tried on multiple networks and with multiple computers. Without explaining why, I have swapped systems four times in the last month and all four times it has been extremely slow. I've been installing this time over two days taking many many hours. I can't install the whole library at once or I get an error. So this morning I've been very carefully monitoring doing less than 500 MB at a time and it has been going for hours since about 9 AM with about an hour break when I went out this morning. I'm still not finished.

This is odd. I've not noticed really slow downloads like that. i was just messing with updates and download to my Android phone and though they were small 10MB or less, they were quick.

But ... I just had to do an update on my laptop for Accordance and noticed a small module seemed a bit sluggish to download. Hmmm...

So I did this test on my Win 10 laptop. I deleted ZIBBCOT, a 512MB module. Redownloading it took 12-13 minutes. That seems long to me.

So I went to Chrome and downloaded the latest Linux Mint a 1.9GB download. That took about 5 minutes.

So then I went to me Mac (which is not an SSD based where my laptop is). I deleted ZIBBCOT and downloaded it - download time was under a minute. This is what it should be.

Is there something up with the Windows download that somehow does not affect the Mac download ?

I don't know what Kevin's test was on but I'm guessing Mac so his and my experiences differ a good deal it seems. Anyhow, maybe that little bit of data is helpful.

Thx

I was downloading on Windows when I experienced the extremely slow download speeds. It took me a few hours on Friday night and finally about 6 hours on Saturday to get my full library downloaded (13GB once  installed I think it was).

Ok. Not so different. And 13GB in 6 hours download rate would not be far from what I was seeing. But with the additional 3 or so on Friday it seems likely you were seeing slower overall averages rates.

Hmmmm

Thx

That's extremely slow for my connection. I tested something else entirely and downloaded a third of a GB from Apple iCloud on the same computer I was seeing the super slow speeds this weekends connected to the same network. Finished in  under a minute. So that means a 13GB download would normally take about 39 minutes but lets say with occasionally stalls twice that at an hour and 2 min.

I often get also a connection lost by checking for updates. Nearly only with Accordance.

Yep - crazy slow for sure.

As I said above there seems to be something up with Acc Win downloads. I would like to hear from Oaktree on similar tests on Windows with 13.0.4 that they can do. There are a number of possible reasons for this but it would first be good to know if they can repro. this behaviour or not. If not perhaps it's regional in some sense - proximity to the AWS endpoint or something - but that's not where I would start. I assume that Mac installs of Acc and Windows ones both download from the same AWS instance.

Thx

13.0.4 mac here I cannot do updates sometimes I can get a list tried doing things just one at a time, almost always i get an error of some kind, like just now I was told i have no active internet connection not found but I am accessing things on the net quite fine. Something is rotten in the state of Denmark. I have no idea but I do hope you find out soon this has been several says now.

I even experienced issues if I had done a Hot Spot (over 100MB download). I wrote to the devs about this some years ago and now I hope it will be solved.

Finally updated today but not prefect after it installed the updates, it tried to do it's check and said "timed out"... I did try to do it again and got the "your modules are up to date" message.

  • 3 weeks later...

No crashes here but slow.

Better would be if Accordance automatically downloads updates in the background (even when it's not running).

Obviously that won't make the downloading faster but (in my case) it means the downloads are often ready before you open Accordance.

FTP is a proven way. It doesn't make slow servers fast, but it does resume broken transfers.
