Ethan
Anyone here have these 2 resources - Willmington's Guide to the Bible and Eerdmans Companion to the Bible, and are able to comment or compare the differences...? Thanks.
Paul Meiklejohn
Ethan, they are quite different in their approach. Eerdmans is a running commentary that will link verse by verse (section by section) to your active bible. Wilmington's is more of a wider overview giving a bird's eye view of the writings, prophets and gospels etc,. W's has lots of interesting facts and figures, E's mainly focuses on the content of each verse / chapter. In my opinion, they would both be good additions to your library, and you would not be doubling up on your content.
Diatheke76
Willmington is more topical in nature and covers methods of studying the Bible along with other topics. Eerdmans is more in depth and gives not only topical content, but also a book, chapter by chapter summary of the entire Bible. Both take on different approaches. In my opinion, Eerdmans is more in-depth and Willmington would supplement it well, but if I had to choose one, I’d buy Eerdmans companion.
