Geoffrey
I hope someone can help. I'm going to start a study of Luke in the autumn and I just want to revise the Greek vocabulary. Can I produce a list showing, in numerical order of appearances, the Greek words used in Luke? I just want to make sure I know everything that appears, say, more than 5 times. I have seen such a list for the NT as a whole but not for a single book. Many thanks for any help offered - I have tried and failed to do it myself repeatedly and now have a headache! Ken Simpson
Hi Geoffrey, very simple to do .... when you know how! first make sure you are searching your Greek text. then search for every word in luke * [range LUKE] will do for the moment. then click the analysis button at the right of the search bar in v13 (looks like a little pie chart) and choose "word count totals" => "Analysis" and you will have an alphabetical list of all the words in Luke. You can then reorder them using Cmd/ctrl-t to count down so the commonest words are at the top. this list is copyable. The count is the number of times in Luke that the word appears. If you use the COUNT command it will count the occurrences in the NT and then display the number in Luke. If you want it to do the COUNT only in Luke, then drop the RANGE command and add a custom range in the drop down menu that appears when you press the + button at the end of the search bar. (Sorry - that's not so clear. You can use the COUNT command to display on the levees that occur a certain number of time in the NT (example 1) or in Luke (example 2) ). if any of this isn’t clear, I’m happy to send a vid or a PDF of how to do it. Larry Wing
Pardon me for jumping in, but thank you Geoffrey for even bringing up the subject. Our church Bible study class is going through Luke now so for interest sake I thought I follow with that search. Interesting results. Probably not the kind of stuff others in the class would find helpful but fun for me.
Ken Simpson
We have one state in Aus that is struggling a bit but it’s coming under control. My state NSW is very watchful but only 9 cases a day at the moment and no deaths for a while. So all in all we are going very well. Thank you for asking.
