Aelfwine
I just now attempted to make my first-ever use of highlighting in Accordance, and it is causing Accordance to crash every time. I select some text, go to the Highlight palette, click on the yellow "Important" box, and it crashes instantly, with no OS X dialogue box. When Accordance crashes, the system console reports this: 11/14/09 8:20:13 PM [0x0-0x363363].com.OakTree.Accordance[5782] An unhandled exception occurred at $00354B65 : 11/14/09 8:20:13 PM [0x0-0x363363].com.OakTree.Accordance[5782] EAccessViolation : Access violation 11/14/09 8:20:13 PM [0x0-0x363363].com.OakTree.Accordance[5782] $00354B65 11/14/09 8:20:13 PM [0x0-0x363363].com.OakTree.Accordance[5782] $000B9D60 11/14/09 8:20:13 PM [0x0-0x363363].com.OakTree.Accordance[5782] $000FD638 11/14/09 8:20:13 PM [0x0-0x363363].com.OakTree.Accordance[5782] $000F0179 11/14/09 8:20:13 PM [0x0-0x363363].com.OakTree.Accordance[5782] $000DF122 11/14/09 8:20:13 PM [0x0-0x363363].com.OakTree.Accordance[5782] $0029B723 11/14/09 8:20:13 PM [0x0-0x363363].com.OakTree.Accordance[5782] $0029B4E8 11/14/09 8:20:13 PM [0x0-0x363363].com.OakTree.Accordance[5782] $002D8941 11/14/09 8:20:13 PM [0x0-0x363363].com.OakTree.Accordance[5782] $002D5634 11/14/09 8:20:13 PM [0x0-0x363363].com.OakTree.Accordance[5782] $002E2902 11/14/09 8:20:13 PM [0x0-0x363363].com.OakTree.Accordance[5782] $002E2450 11/14/09 8:20:13 PM [0x0-0x363363].com.OakTree.Accordance[5782] $002E1F5F 11/14/09 8:20:13 PM com.apple.launchd.peruser.502[88] ([0x0-0x363363].com.OakTree.Accordance[5782]) Exited with exit code: 217 I tried deleting my MyHighlights.hlt file and relaunching, but the crash still occurs without fail. I should probably note that I keep my workspace, highlight, user tools etc. files and folders on my iDisk (so I can access them from both my laptop and my desktop Mac), not on my boot drive (which is where Accordance itself is located). Any ideas? Carl P.S. Running Accordance 8.4 under OS X 10.6.2. P.P.S. Another data point: when I attempt to add a User Tool (e.g., the free Confessions User Tool just downloaded from the shared User Tool site, and placed in Accordance Folder -> Modules -> Shared User Tools) by using Add New Module in the Library window, nothing happens. The tool isn't added, and no exception or message shows up in the console. I tried deleting my User Tools preference and restarting Accordance, but that had no (apparent) effect. And if I just double-click on the tool in the Finder, Accordance launches but doesn't display anything. P.P.P.S. Here are some screen shots showing what I see when I 1) open the Highlighing palette and 2) Try to define a new Highlighting Style. 1. 2.
Aelfwine
Well, I figured out the cause myself. Turns out Accordance REALLY doesn't like aliases. When I moved my Accordance Files folder off my iDisk and back into my Documents folder on my boot drive, everything started working again. I read somewhere else in this forum that symbolic links (as opposed to aliases) my do what I want, so I'll give that a try. At any rate, the lesson here seems to be: avoid aliases. Aelfwine
The symbolic link seems to do the trick. So: do NOT use aliases for Accordance files; use symbolic links instead. Carl
