Delay in Opening Accordance Application

Hello,

I just purchased a new MacBook and have transferred Accordance from my old PowerBook. However, now when I open Accordance from the new MacBook there is a noticeable delay (nearly 3-4 minutes) before it will actually show my workspace, library, and instant details window. I know it's not because my computer is slow because I'm on Mac OS X 10.6.2, 2.26 GHz, with 4 GB of RAM.

Any suggestions on why this is happening?

Thanks,

Kellan

Try setting it to start with just a new Search window. Does that make a difference? Maybe your workspace is loading a lot of stuff.

Yes'm, I tried that earlier. I was thinking that was the problem too, but still getting the same delay. I got the delay the very first time I opened Accordance app on the new mac. Since then, it has opened quickly...but now, today, after shutting down my computer and restarting the application multiple times, I'm still getting the problem.

I had the same problem for a while and discovered a predictable relationship to my wireless (Airport) setting. If Airport was on, I had a 5 min. or longer delay until my workspace appeared (all the while with the spinning rainbow cursor). If Airport was off, the start up was instant. If I started with Airport on and turned it off during the delay, the Accordance workspace would instantly appear after that change. I never tested this with an Ethernet cable network connection, but I wonder if it would be the same.

Although this behavior went away for a few days after I updated Snow Leopard, it has come back again and, strangely enough, it's still possible for me to fix the delay by turning off Airport.

I'd be interested to know whether you had Airport turned on (or if you have any other network connection like Ethernet live) while you started Accordance.

I run another program called Little Snitch, which tells me what software is trying to communicate outwardly through any network interfaces. Every single time that I launch Accordance with Airport on, I see a flurry of network activity going out and coming in. After a minute or so, the activity goes away and then it's just the spinning rainbow cursor while I wait for Accordance to load.

Just for info, here's what I'm running:

MacBook Pro

(2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo)

Mac OS X 10.6.2

Accordance 8.4

[i'll hook up my MacBook Pro to an Ethernet cable when I get home today and see if the behavior is identical]

that's extremely helpful info. I was at the house when I was experiencing the delay. My airport was on. However, when I went across town to the library, I was on a totally different secure network and it pops right up. Very interesting.

I suppose I will just turn my airport off temporarily when opening at home...or just wait for the delay.

If you discover a solution to being able to open quickly with airport still on I would love to know.

Thank you for your advice,

kd

  • 2 weeks later...

The good news is that Accordance is awesome to work with on the new iMacs! The bad news is that this problem exists here as well and isn't as easy to work around. This is not a "fresh install", though, because I took advantage of the initial startup feature to copy user files, apps and settings from my MacBook.

Since I'm using an ethernet connection for my iMac and I run primarily in non-admin user mode, I can't easily switch off the interface (as I used to do with AirPort) to speed up the launch. That has given me enough opportunity to see that Accordance is now reliably taking 4 to 6 minutes to launch from the point that I click on the docking bar icon. :( This is the case, even if I quit and start immediately. I would have expected OS caching to have improved the time, but it doesn't.

iMac

2.8 Intel Core i7

8 GB memory

Mac OS X 10.6.2

Accordance 8.4
