Periods After a Book Abbreviation

Could I suggest that there is an option for automatically placing periods after a book abbreviation? It is a pain to manually type a period every time I cite a text :)

Thanks.

Unless I am not aware of the preference. Is there an option to place a period after an abbreviation of a book? For example:

(Rev. 21:3) instead of what appears to be the default (Rev 21:3)

Many editors and publishers desire to have that period after the abbreviation.

We'll note the request, although as you can see, it hasn't provoked a chorus of agreement on the forum.

I'm pretty sure that while it still exists in some books, the standard is to no longer place periods after book abbreviations. I know that I haven't used periods in book abbreviations in my own writing in a decade and a half. Academic works don't use them, and this has even trickled down to non-academic work.

Save yourself a keystroke and let them go ;)

I would love to let them go, but I think it is safe to say that most non-academic works still require a period. And there are still technical works that require a period, e.g. BEC, NIGTC, Pillar (not that I am writing a commentary; but I think periods are here to stay for a while). And if one is writing a book or lengthy article that requires them, it is a pain to manually add them every time, easily forgetting at times. I can't imagine that it would be difficult to add an option in the citation section of the preferences. It would be appreciative and convenient for those who write more for a general audience and have editors who require them.
