recycling

I am confused about the recycling command. In a text, if I amplify an english word from the resource pallet, my english tool comes up. If recycling is on that window, the next time I amplify an english word, that same window is used to amplify that word. This makes sense to me. However, the same is not true of maps. When I amplify a place name from the resource pallet, the map opens with that city highlighted. If recycling is on that map window and I amplify another place name from the same text, a new map window opens. What's going on?

Anthony, I cannot duplicate this behavior. If the recycle icon appears in my first map window, the same map window is reused each time I amplify a new place. I tried doing it both by amplifying to the Resource Palette and using the contextual menu (right-click). Both seem to work correctly.

Anthony,

I have noticed a second map window opening from time to time, but for the life of me I can't get it to do so now. Recycling is generally designed to work unless you change some fundamental characteristic of the window. For example, if you triple-clicked a Greek word to look it up in the Greek Title field of a Greek tool, then changed the field in that tool window to something else, the next time you triple-clicked a new copy of that Greek Tool would open because there is no longer a window open with the Greek Title field selected. The setting change makes that window no longer appropriate for recycling.

I suspect something like that is happening here. Why don't you give us the exact steps you're taking: how you're amplifying to the map, what place names you're looking up, etc. Then hopefully we'll be able to see what you're seeing.

This particular time I was using OT sites, the divided kingdom layer and no routs or user layer. I was looking up sites from NET 1Kings 15 (Ramah, Geba and Mizpah). I'm amplifying by highlighting the word and clicking the map icon on the resource pallet.

Oddly enough, after changing the layers as Helen and Dr J suggested in my other post, the recycling is working perfectly for these exact same sites. Perhaps there was some internal conflict, I don't know. I'm glad I'm not the only one with this issue, though. Thanks very much.
