Creating a user tool

Recommended Posts

I have been been making a lot of progress on my own and through podcasts and this forum, but am kind of stuck with this issue and could use a little help. Lately I have had more and more use for creating user tools and would like to be able to easily incorporate bits and pieces from another Accordance module into my own user tool. When I have tried this, the scripture hypertext links don't seem to copy and paste, so I have had to manually add the links as I go. Is this normal, or am I missing something?

I also would like to pull in some public domain articles with scripture references. I assume these would need links manually created as well, or is there a shorter way? This especially can be very tedious.

Thanks in advance for any help someone may have to offer.

Blessings.....Bev

Bev,

When you copy text from an Accordance tool and paste it into your user tool edit window, the hypertext links are indeed lost. It would be slick if we translated those links somehow, but alas, that's not currently possible.

As for the PD articles you're wanting to incorporate, there is a way to get the Scriptures linked automatically: import them from HTML rather than copying and pasting the text into your user tool. You'll need to make sure the articles you want to import are in html format, but once they are, choose Import from the User Tool menu of the Resource palette. In the dialog which opens, make sure HTML is selected at the top. You can then choose whether to create a new user tool from the imported file, or add that imported file to the end of an existing user tool.

When you import HTML files into a user tool, Accordance automatically searches for obvious Scripture references and turns them into links.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for your quick reply. This was helpful!... I just don't know anything about HTML files or where to get them.., so maybe in one of your later podcasts on the subject I will learn more. For now, I still have enough to learn....still learning more and more what accordance can do and so perhaps I shouldn't go down that road til later. All the resources I have are enough to keep me busy. :)

I had been wanting some articles and notes from the Online ESV Study Bible website. I already own the text with the free online version, and the OliveTree one, so figured it was okay to do that, but when I realized how much more useful it would be actually working in my accordance, I just caved and purchased it!

Anyway, let me take this opportunity to thank you not only for your reply, but for everything else that you and the Accordance team are doing to help customers by way of podcasts, online training and forums. We so appreciate all the help!

Thanks again....Bev
