Didn't Realize I Had the Option to Switch Until Recently

I've ben on a Mac now for about 3 years. It wasn't long after I switched to the Mac that I didn't even want to use my PC. It now sets in the back room serving as a file server.... well actually a file archive/backup unit more than an actual "file server".

Before I switched over to the Mac however, I installed Laridian's PocketBible on my PocketPC and pretty much slowly started loosing interest in Quick Verse for Windows as much of my attention was on the mobile aspects of Bible software. Actually, I had started loosing interest in Quick Verse years ago after Parsons "Sold Out". After I switched over to the Mac, I continued using my PocketPC until July of 2009 when I got my iPhone. Of course, I no longer had a use for the PocketPC or my desktop PC (other than it's use as a file server/backup unit) I eventually discovered that all of the Bibles and books I had previously purchased for my PocketPC could be download to my iPhone at no extra cost! What a blessing that has been. Then just recently I purchased my iPad and was likewise able to download my Bibles and books to the iPad at no additional charge, how cool is that? Having the Bible in several different translations along with several additional reference books on my iphone and iPad has been fantastic, but it hasn't been complete without a good desktop Bible application on my Mac. To make a long story short, I sort of stumbled upon Accordance while I was viewing an article on a Bible software blog review site known as Bible Software Newsletter .

So it appears that my long search for a good Mac based software application has finally been discovered. I purchased my copy of Accordance just before the 4th of July weekend, and am anxiously awaiting the DVD in the mail. So you can expect to hear more from me in the future and please, pardon all of the newbie questions I know I'll have. I do my best to read all of the help files, and watch the online training videos (which btw, Accordance has done a very nice job with those videos found on at: http://www.accordancefiles2.com/training/Start.html

Thanks

Ron,

Welcome to the club. Don't worry about asking 'newbie' questions. There are numerous power users who have always been willing and able to come to the rescue of those of use who are not there yet, not to mention that the fantastic Accordance staff prowl the forum like a hunting lioness (hunting for the opportunity to help out).

I would recommend before asking questions to use the search feature of the forum though, it has saved me re-asking numerous questions.

Will do, and I've watched some of the training videos already, thanks for the welcome.

The first thing that impressed me with Accordance was their selection of modules provided with the $99 package. It contained almost everything that is most important to me to as a starter application. The LIfe Application Study Notes, and the Experiencing God daily devotional as well as an included Bible translation of my choice (NIV), all great choices. I was pleasantly suppressed to see the LAB and the NIV included in that price. I was however disappointed that the Atlas was not included, or at lease included for a nominal add-on fee, but it wasn't a huge deal I don't suppose. I almost went with Logos only because they offered a finance plan but decided against it because they don't have an established MAC application. Who wants to buy a beta app, much less a alfa app? I don't understand that?

Oak Tree, have you ever entertained the idea of allowing financing (or better yet, no interest payment plans) for those wanting to start out with one of the larger bundles? Just a thought.

We do have payment plans for larger purchases. We will also give you full credit if you want to get a larger bundle within 3 months of your purchase, though our upgrades to higher levels are available at any time.

+1 for the welcome!

You'll find this forum full of great people who are very eager and willing to help. Nobody ever makes you feel silly for asking questions, so ask on!

Oaktree does finance, there is minimum amount you have to buy and they will break it up in three payments I believe. There is a $20 charge, if I remember correctly.

Your headed in the right direction going through the help files and watching the vidoes, also be sure and check out Dr. J's podcasts - Lighting the Lamp in iTunes. They are great.

You'll find out very quickly that Accordance is a very powerful program with an incredible search capability. You may be a bit overwhelmed at first with a desire to get all you can out of the software immediately. There is a learning curve but the journey is a blast and rewarding.

When you first get into Accordance it is like the mosquito that landed on the fat lady - he knew what he wanted but didn't know where to start. :D

It will come together for you as you develop a workflow over time.

Enjoy!

Okay, thanks for the heads up Helen, that's tempting because I would really like to have the Graphics package. Im checking in to it.

There's also an Atlas Sampler for $20 that would give you a "starter" Atlas. The price is credited toward the purchase of the "full" atlas.

What a wonderful weekend. Got a little sleep LOL. Learning today more about User tools how powerful!! Im excited! Still trying to figure out just how to properly install user tools downloaded from the Accordance Exchange. I did download Stuffit Expander to expand the .sit files. But had a little trouble understanding how to import them expanded file. I believe all I have to do is simply double click on the user tool from the folder in finder and it installs the too into Accordance automatically. Is the the correct way to do it though?

I was looking at the "Import User Tool" from Accordance File/User Files but when it came to selecting which type of Import (HTML, Plain Text, or TLG I didn't know which to select.

I remember watching a training video on this, I'll go back and watch it again.
