editing a user tool

I created a user tool with many scripture references. The original file was Word (docx), but I saved it as a web page (htm), then imported it. This created links for most but not all citations. In some cases the space between the book and reference was dropped (e.g. Ps122:1-9 instead of Ps 122:1-9).

If I put the cursor between Ps and 122:1-9 and hit the spacebar, the editing window opens. I hit update, but the edit window (which show the space insertion) still has the dot in the left (red) circle. Command-S has no effect. Clicking the close (or command-W) prompts the update dialogue. I select update, but lo and behold, my edit has not been saved.

I did a command-I on the file, and in the sharing and permissions section it says I can read and write. I gave staff and everyone read and write privileges to no avail.

What am I missing?

This sounds a lot like an intermittent bug I have experienced from time to time, but that the tech support folks haven't been able to pin down, despite a lot of effort.

If you quit Accordance and restart, can you edit the User Tool and save it? That's always fixed it for me.

Unfortunately for me, quitting and restarting Accordance does not solve the problem. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Thanks Helen, but I solved it. It appears to be an issue with Word 2011. If one saves a docx document as htm and then import the latter as a tool, it will not let you edit the tool (or at least in this case it did not; but I was able to replicate this problem, so I think it is real).

Today I opened the docx file, saved as txt, opened the txt file, changed the font, and then saved as htm. I imported that htm file as a user tool, and it was editable. The resultant user tool still has some flaws: Ps 72:1-2 still comes over as Ps72:1-2 (no space, no link), but at least I can manually correct it.

My guess that it is something imbedded within docx files that gums up the translation to htm. The conversion remains messy, but much work is still eliminated.

Happy New Year!

P.S. Thanks to all for the iOS app.

Strangely enough I have noticed that if you save a Word 2011 document (i.e. the MAC office version) to htm format then it will 'lose' the last space in every line and it ends up concatenating words. However if you convert to htm using the windows version (Word 2007) it does not have this problem. So if you have a large user tool to load into Accordance and you have access to the windows version of Word it may be better to save to htm format using that.

Unfortunately in both versions you still get some issues with other formatting (usually, it seems, if you have italics in a number of places) but at least you do not have to edit to put spaces back in where they have been lost.

Regards

Steve
