What does "Average Hits" in details window mean?

I am using the details window from a Greek search, which has some very nice information. When using the "Table Bar Chart" I understand all of the views except "Average hits." I can see from this view which book of the NT uses a word the most for the length of the book, but what exactly does the number mean? For example, if I search for the root of theword lupe or the root of the word pascho I can see that there are 155 hits in the NT, of which 19 appear in 1 Peter. I understand this, but when I go to average hits, it gives the number 9.05 - what does that number mean? I know in the graph (see attached pic below) that it is telling me that one of the two roots of these two words appears with greater frequency in 1 Peter than in any other book, but what does 9.05 refer to?

If you open the Table option in the Details zone, you'll see that the average hits corresponds to the number of hits per 1,000 words. The number in the table bar chart and the table itself will be identical.
